Can you tell the difference between the two rides?

I recently got to ride Space with the lights on, and while riding I must say it is terrible ride. In matter of fact with the lights on I actually prefer Goofys sky school. Heres the challenge can you tell the difference? Now who has better theming?

The darkness IS the theming. It's comparing apples and oranges. It's like saying here's Goofy's SS without the cutouts, which has better theming?

    Exactly!
"You can cut me off from the civilized world. You can incarcerate me with two moronic cellmates. You can torture me with your thrice daily swill, but you cannot break the spirit of a Winchester. My voice shall be heard from this wilderness and I shall be delivered from this fetid and festering sewer."

    Yup.

Space wasn't meant to be seen with the lights on.
If you walked through a haunted house with the lights on you'd be disappointed too.
It's all about illusion. If they wanted you to see SM with the lights on, they would have done the ride so much differently.

Couldn't have said it better myself

And beside Space Mountain is original, where as GSS is just a Wild Mouse ride with goofy overlayed over him

    To be more precise:

    APPLES ORANGES
GROWN ON FRUIT TREE Yes Yes
COLOR OF FRUIT Depends on variety Orange
    FRUIT SKIN TEXTURE smooth knobby
VISIBLE SEEDS IN FRUIT Yes Depends on variety
MEAN CIRCUMFERENCE OF FRUIT (cm) 25.6 24.4
MEAN DIAMETER OF FRUIT (cm) 7.9 7.6
    MEAN WEIGHT OF FRUIT (g) 340 357
    CAN BE EATEN Yes Yes
    SWEETNESS 2+ 2+
    FIBER IN A LARGE FRUIT (g) 4.5 2.4
    CAN BE JUICED Yes Yes
CALORIES (per 8 oz. serving juice) 117 112
POTASSIUM (mg, per 8 oz. serving juice) 295 496
VITAMIN C (mg, per 8 oz. serving juice) 103 124
FOLATE (mcg, per 8 oz. serving juice) 0 74

So what are we comparing again? Oh yeah its Space Mountain with maintenance lights on to Goofy's Sky School up and running normally. That's more like comparing the Titanic to a submarine. They both went underwater but not for the same reason.
Stalking is when two people go for a long romantic walk together but only one of them knows about it.

I'm kinda blown away by how rediculously simple a ride SM is withought the music and darkness/stars. I feel almost ripped off lol

A better comparison would be between Space Mountain with normal show elements vs. ANY ride with a blindfold on.

That's why I don't raise my arms up on SM. I'm afraid of getting hit by a support.

Re: Can you tell the difference between the two rides?

With the lights on, SM has sort of an unintentional backup theme. In regular mode, it's zooming-through-space sci-fi, and with the lights on it's more gritty-industrial-dystopia sci-fi.

Heeeeeeyyyy! Watcha go and do that for? Trying to ruin the Disney (non-lit) magic for us?

Of course, I had the choice to not watch...but, as they say...Curiosity killed the cat.

Try riding it with EVERYTHING turned off. Lights, star effects (basically the disco balls), effects, everything... it is very creepy.
