Sitting at JHB right now. Sandwiches look good and filling. Salad choices look interesting, one is beef. The quiche has ham in it, there is no vegetarian choice. But we came for desert. I tried the flourless chocolate cake, thick and rich. Husband had the cinnamon roll, sugar shock was his review. We both tried the punch. It is pomegranate and very tart. I sucked mine down merely to combat the thickness of the cake. Nice decor, and it is nice to sit out front and watch the hub.
Well, the execution is spot on. The debate around Poppins will continue, but at least the details are there.
Thanks for posting the pictures! I love grilled cheese and tomato soup yummy.
We were sent over there with the message that only we would defend Disney quality.. We learnt quickly that the Japanese culture speaks to a level of quality that is hard to comprehend. They were all unbelievably skilled and willing to do the right thing.Bringing the Love since January 10, 2011

Yeah, Main Street is basically an imaginary Kansas City circa 1905, right? Steve, I don't think that matches the idea of Victorian. In any event, the bakery looks nice, and I look forward to seeing it in person.
Love it! The only thing that would make this better is having penguin waiters

Is this the same pomegranate stuff they use at some of the other restaurants (but usually mixed with lite lemonade-yuck)? Sounds like it could be...if it is, I'm just glad they're not forcing people to drink lite lemonade. I wish Disneyland would offer some real freshly-squeezed lemonade...
Take me to Neverland...
Lets be fair. There are certainly enough references to Mary Poppins to make it clear that she is a part of the place. The point I keep stumbling back to is that given it's location in the hub and the numerous links that can be made to at least the time and place of Main Street, there is no harm done in that choice. It might be different if it was placed somewhere along the street, but the hub has it placed just perfectly for the differences to not matter in any way that draws a red flag.
Main Street is an idealized turn of the century town drawing inspiration from Marcelline Missouri, Fort Collins and a few other towns. Walt, Harper Goff and the designers of the street drew inspiration from their home towns and decided that it would take on a Victorian feel that was present in many small towns during the early 1900's.
Can't wait to try it!
I wonder if the "House Chips" are homemade or just everyday packaged.
Hey!! Thats my favorite part!!!!
Well as much as I like penguins, this might be a bit much....
But overall I think it looks nice. Its there, its looks pretty, it has a nice menu, I'm just going to enjoy it and not worry about the lack of theme, violations of theme or any of that other stuff because at the end of the day for me, there are just so many more things in life more important than worrying about how the bakery doesn't fit on Main Street. I only get down to the park two, maybe three times a year and I savor and enjoy my time of escape from reality. Life is short, don't sweat the small stuff that 50 years from now won't matter anyway.
Except that Disneyland is supposed to be its own creative endeavor. It is not the Disney film archive.
That shows how far the mindset has come. It is a bizarre irony. The very fans of Disneyland are the very ones who openly dismiss themed entertainment as unique and legitimate.
If John Hench, and many others since, is to be believed, an integral part of Disneyland working as an escape from the real world is its lack of these very contradictions. One many not break the illusion but with each one the controlled environment moves more and more towards the chaos of sign and symbols outside the berm.
