There are so many problems, that go to the very
layout of the entire park, and THAT ain't changing
anytime soon. You can't change the skeleton of
the park as easily or cheaply as it was originally built,
and will be something this park will be battling for
PARADISE PIER: This is the rat crapiest piece of dung
the imagineers, with Michael Eisner, at the helm of this
Hindenberg, have ever done. As you can tell, I ain't holding back my
feeling on this section of a DISNEY PARK.
No magic in THIS Kingdom, unless you spell it KingDUMB! With off
the shelf rides and carny amusements, a coaster disguised
as a coaster, a ferris wheel as a ferris wheel, and so on,
THEY thought that if they place a Disney sign on the
county fair carnivaland rename McDonald's "Burger Invasion",
the public wouldn't notice the difference.
Then add to the mix, trying to cram in music into coaster cars that weren't designed for that, and ignoring problems with certain braking
zones, and you have a ride that combines all the worst possible
problems of both Big Thunder and Space Mt.
Then, in the middle of this "land", plop a puddle of water, that was designed, for NO PURPOSE WHATSOEVER, no attratction, no show.
And what did happen when they tried to do a show on the water?
Of course it failed, too. Those are just the beginning of the highlights
of the problems with this area, the initial infastructure, and lack forthought for expansion to this area.
ENTRY AREA and PARADE ROUTE:
It's really incomprehensible how Disney could have possibly screwed up
the welcome and entry area to this new park, when DISNEYLAND ITSELF
OFFERS DAILY TOURS TOUTING THE GENIOUS OF THE LAYOUT OF DL. At
DL, when entering the gates, there is a welcome area, then you go through either tunnel with Movie Theater Posters of the "Feature Attractions" which are currently playing, and then BOOM! Those tunnels are virtual time machines (except for the prices on the souveniers) !!!
And consider Main Street just the lobby for this grand "Movie Theater". At the Hub, you decide which "Featured Attraction" you want to see first!
NOW at DCA, They tried to create a "POSTCARD" Entrance, that you walk into. Not a bad idea itself, and they did move part of the welcome area,
out into the esplanade area, by placing the CALIFORNIA letters before the gates to the park. again this is not a bad idea, entirely. BUT, what happens next is a skeletal problem of this park, that will continue to haunt it, and ALWAYS make it seem like a "magicless Kingdumb". And ain't no way Tinkerbell can fix Eisner's "Frankenstein of a Theme Park"
This park has NO "BOOM" moment. No place that the entry that let's you know your not in Kansas anymore. In fact, this park completely eliminates
that critical part of Creating Disney Magic. HECK, you can see the Parades in the Park, without even going INTO the park!!!! They Crammed the Welcome, Entry Area, "Main Street" and Hub into about 1/10th the space that was allowed at DL. The Tunnel and Main Street experience are GONE! They should have allowed for this Magical Transformation moment! BUT instead of unfolding the story for us, once we get into the park, it's like we run into a picture painted on a brick wall. And whats the deal with no curbs. that all certainly helps shape the area, and distinguishes parade routes, etc. But instead , they use cheap temporary colored tape to mark parade route areas. And they run the parade route directly in front of the entrance to a deadend land, not allowing for traffic to pass in and out of that land (Hollywood Backlot)
Next Problem: NOT ADDING ENOUGH ATTRACTIONS
Now, DL has been open 50 years, and DCA, almost 5.
At DL, by the age of 5, it had added Matterhorn, Monorail,
Subs. ALL E-Tickets! Matterhorn 1st tubular roller coaster
themed as a bobsled ride thru this Swiss Mt. Subs, and
underwater atomic submarine adventure ~ with more submarines
than most countries had at the time, and the Monorail, on which
the Vice President was accidently taken on this new transportation
system without the secret service.
I dare say NOTHING OF THIS STATURE WILL POSSIBLY OCCUR BY the
time DCA hits it's Fifth Birthday! And if you want to look to the next
5 years, for comparrison, Walt was already working on his 4 major attractions for the World's Fair, (that would ALL find a home in DL, soon
after), and the magic of the Tiki Room would soon be opening for over 40 years of shows. AND GET THIS, in Adventureland, YES the attraction actually PLACED in a land that makes sense to the theme of the whole land!
AND Without the proper initial design, themes for the park and lands, the entire layout of the park, HOW CAN DCA POSSIBLY KEEP UP WITH
THE STANDARDS THAT WALT SET FOR THE 1st TEN YEARS OF DL?
The answer is sadly, it cannot. You build on the cheap and run to failure, and the result is you fail. To fix DCA, will require expenditures so costly, that they really should be paid by the incompetence of the people who were in charge. Time for Eisner and Pressler to relinquish stock to pay for mistakes they made, and harmed the Disney "brand".
