Disneyland Guitarist Ernie McLean passes away

Mr. Daps on his site reports the loss of one of New Orleans Square's small treasures: Ernie McLean. Based on what I heard, he was the last person to be hired by Walt Disney himself.

I've seen this guitarist play in NOS during my visits and I didn't know until now that he's been at NOS since 1966. I've enjoyed his music and it'll be sorely missed.

Here's a video I found of Mclean on Youtube.

What a bummer! I was there last week trying to look for him. I had his cd and wanted to have him sign it. Prayers go to him and his family....

That makes me sadder than I can express. I've talked to him on several occasions about guitars, amps, our musical influences etc. He was truly a legend, and an absolutely cool guy.

My heart is broken, and he will be greatly missed.

    RIP brother

R.I.P Ernie McLean - Disneyland Loses An Icon

MrDaps reported this on his site: Disneyland Loses an Icon | DAPs Magic Geeks Corner. For those who don't know who Ernie is, he is the guitar player who played in New Orleans Square.

Sad to hear...I always liked to stop and listen to him play, but hadn't seen him at the park past few visits. He was a part of Disneyland I just got used to always being there...sorry to hear of his passing, and hopefully he is survived and remembered by folks who knew him better than we as park visitors did. Thoughts out to family and friends.

I am very sad to hear this. I loved hearing him play at Blue Bayou and Outside the Court of Angels. Another Disneyland legend has been lost.

As a guitarist of almost 45 years, I would always stop and talk shop with Ernie. I have some great pics taken with the guy through the years.
I'm saddened to hear of this loss, and yet gratified that I was able to spend time and learn so much from this great musician.

Sad to see a legend go. Seriously, he left a small, but significant mark on music history, possibly the world's first rock guitarist.

I always took a few moments to watch him play. While many tourists would walk by with a glance, I sat spellbound, realizing how much of a privilege it was to watch this master musician perform so effortlessly.

Today, I'm quite saddened to know that I won't have that opportunity again. RIP, Ernie, and thank you for all of the wonderful music you shared with millions.

Really sad news. On my one trip to Disneyland in August 2010, we heard Ernie after exiting Pirates and noticed many guests just passed him by. We were amazed by his sound and stood enthralled by him for a good fifteen minutes, then purchased his CD. Ernie will be missed.
