I was there opening week! There the first Saturday of a park that wasn't 5 days old.
Put it this way, everything was a walk on! I did not experience anything over 15 mins that entire first day and I was there for 10 hours! I rode Screamin 7 times in 30 mins! I would get off and litterally just run back on it! The place felt like a ghost town! I rode nearly every ride in the place (and there werent many though) in about 3 hours! I was there for 10, so yeah think about it lol!
And the park basically stayed like that for a few years! It got a tad busier when they offered discount tickets and a special event, but DCA never remotely felt 'busy' to me until maybe 2008 lol. I didnt go every year, would skip MULTIPLE years because I didnt live close but every few years I did pop in, never busy. Busier, but 'busy', never! Those were some great times for me and the other 10,000 people who were around!
I think Disney was paying people to visit the park at that time.
Pretty soon after the opening they were offering deals where you bought a ticket to DL and you got a free ticket to DCA (no park hopping). You could buy them at the check out counters in the grocery store. That's the only way they ever got me in the park - I'd take the free ticket, go to dinner at DTD, walk on a few of the headliners, and then check out the MSEP.
