In your shoes, I would REALLY CAREFULLY read through the auction wording. If there was truly no hint of a photograph ban, then you have a case for the small claims court. (or alternately, tell Disneyland that you are planning that, and see if you don't get a refund or option to take photos at a later date)

I feel that Martha once again did the typical Martha Thang™, and simply exceeded her authority. Given that members of both NFFC and the DL Creative Advisory Council have been permitted to take photos of Walt's apartment during various tours over the past two years, not to mention Pixar animators and their guests at an after-hours event hosted by Tony Baxter this past August, Martha's decision makes no sense whatsoever. It's not as though everyone visiting that apartment has been told to put their cameras away, as a matter of official DL policy. Far from it.

Folks who attended this breakfast paid through the nose to do so, and should have been told upfront last July, that inside photography would not be permitted. I'm guessing that no such restriction existed when the auction was originally held, and that this was a last-minute decision made by Martha, for who knows what reason.

If I had paid that much money for this breakfast, but wasn't permitted to take photographs, knowing that Pixar animators were permitted this activity just four months prior, I'd be asking for a partial refund, if not outright demanding one.
As I mentioned before, because there was NO verbiage ANYWHERE in the the auction booklette OR at the auction itself saying "No pictures, videos will be allowed inside the apt", Because of this, pictures should have been allowed for this group. Utimately, it was Martha's responsibility to make sure that all bidders were aware that no pictures could be taken in the apt, prior to the bidding.

HOWEVER, I don't think this is a "Martha" decision. When I was able to visit the apt in May 2005, we were also told "no pictures inside the apt". At least one other person on this thread also mentioned that they were not allowed to take pictures in the apt. So this IS NOT the first time a group has been told "no pics".

As for other people or groups who were allowed to take pictures in the apt, consider yourself twice as fortunate.

Thanks for the TR, Circarama. Sounds like you had a great time, in spite of the no photography thing.

Either a formal policy exists against photography inside the apartment, or it doesn't.

If said policy does exist, then the "handlers" of the groups that were allowed to photograph the interior were wrong to do so, and should be admonished for it. Even Mr. Baxter.

However... given that several different groups have gone through the apartment's interior with cameras, some being led by associates of the same Merchandise Special Events department which Martha manages... makes me question the existence of said formal policy. In other words, I highly doubt there is one.

And I agree with Aladdin. Martha was absolutely in the wrong for not warning auction participants in advance about the "no photography" rule.

Given the exceedingly high cost of this breakfast event, not disclosing this info at the time of the auction was misleading and unethical on the part of Merch Special Events.

    Great report!!!

I have been lucky enough to visit the apartment once, and we were told no photos also.

Although for this event you should have been allowed.

Thanks for sharing this "once in a lifetime" event with all of us!!!

I tend to agree with this post. It sure sounds like a double standard exists depending on whether Disney is trying to impress, or whether they are taking your money for access!
Unfortunately, I don't think that I will be getting another opportunity in my lifetime to visit Disneylands holiest of holies.

Unfortunately, since this was Martha's event, she has complete authority, regardless of any previously set prescidents.

I've never heard this "lazy walt" theory before...the prevailing idea regarding the showerheads that I've heard is that they were there for theraputic reasons. Walt received a neck injury in the late 1930s playing field Polo and required daily therapy sessions at the studios in burbank to keep it in check. Many, many luxury tract homes built today feature multiple shower heads in their designs as well. Check out Taylor Woodrow or Toll Brothers homes (two very nice builders).

I have to agree and it is why Martha should take all of the blame and not deflect it like she has during past events. In typical Martha style, we never receive full disclosure, only grand promises of what is to come and of "lots of surprises" (of course, much like the last event there were no "surprises" to be had). The clever misdirection is no longer clever and I have already composed my letter to Mr. Emmer requesting that each member of the group be given the opportunity to have their photograph taken inside of the apartment. Holding on to someone who has clearly lost the Disney touch is indicative of the Pressler/Harris era and requires immediate change.

As I said in my post, who knows if the information is true. Your explanation sounds a great deal more trustworthy than the fact Walt was "lazy". If we would have actually received the "Tour of Walt's Apartment" like the auction catalog stated, we may have actually learned about the shower and other items found inside of the apartment. Of course, no tour was conducted and we spent most of our time on the patio.

We have a Toll Brothers development close to here and I am impressed by their showers and many other features. Looks to be a great builder!
