But I guess +1 for not picking Carlos Mencia.

So if you don't like the humor... if you don't like the sound... you don't like what he says. Blame Pixar and John L - not Larry the Cable guy.

Larry was on the radio for ages long before most Disney fans had any clue of him and it's not Larry they put in the film or the attraction but the character PIXAR chose to put in the film.

If you can't take it.. put blame where it is due.
Have to agree with this. Putting a Mator ride is a logical step when building a Cars Land - and building a Cars Land in DCA is a logical step in general, since the setting lends itself well to a theme park land, particularly one that's supposed to be set in California.

But anyways, there's listening to Larry the Cable Guy for an entire radio show (utter torture), and then there's sitting through a 90 minute movie in which his CHARACTER, not himself, takes up about half, such as in Cars 2 (tolerable enough for a parent to sit through; the movie had other issues but I digress), and then there's sitting though a 90 minute movie in which his character takes up a third, such as in the original Cars (easily tolerable; again, there were other problems besides him), and finally, there's riding a fun ride, in Disneyland, surrounded by well-done scenery, for 90 seconds, where the most you'll have to listen to Mater/Larry is probably during the safety spiel that you've heard hundreds of times before and can easily tune out.

Larry is not being immortalized. If they didn't put in a Mater-themed ride, it'd be like not putting Jiminy Cricket in the Pinocchio ride just because some people think he's annoying.

It seems to me people can dislike this attraction before it even debuts solely based on the sound that is Mater which IS Larry The Cable Guy. When I first visited the Disneyland.com section of Carsland and heard the radio play one of the possible songs featuring Mater to be played on the ride... I cringed. I literally listened to about 14 or so seconds and just had to stop the audio.

No, I just can't. I hope and pray that the time I'm standing in line that there is some audio problem with the speakers and sound system while I wait in the que.

And when I stand in that que listening to his voice playing, I will tune him out the best way I can. I am allowed to do that. I am allowed to dislike Mater and/or Larry and/or Pixar and/or the Easter Bunny. Who cares where blame is placed. It is his voice. It's not like he did much different to his voice to alter it for Mater. I didn't like him before Cars and I don't think I like him after Cars. I'm sure he's a good man but I just don't want to sit down and enjoy his brand of humor and his likeness featured in the film of Cars. Everyone's got their valid reasons for associating Larry's voice to that of fingers scratching on a chalkboard.

I can only hope there would be a mix of songs from Cars in the junkyard speakers and I would hope that there is a proper mix of audio sound bites from the other Cars characters from the movie.

I just know that if the audio for that attraction stays solely devoted to just Mater and his songs and his voice and his jokes and his voice and his voice and his voice... then I know that I am in the majority that his voice is making me want to retreat to my ipod or worse, leave the line until I can come back later and zip through the que on a later downtime.

The reason why this is an "issue" of sorts is because the que has become a huge part of the newest attractions. I personally feel this que was done WRONG. But again it's my opinion and I'm valid in having one. We all are.

Here's a funny comparison. Had Iago from Aladdin suddenly become world famous and popular that an entire attraction was based on his character and featured his audio and songs sung by him... well to me it's just not any different. There are just some creations by both the actors and the studio combined that turn some people off. I'll still ride the darn thing but I can voice my opinion on how bad the choice is to engulf the rider in that voice.

Re: Mater's Junkyard Jamboree Test Ride

I'm not sure when did a ride review suddenly become a slam against Larry the Cable guy? We've known for, 5 years now, the ride is based on Mater AND that Mater was going to be singing songs for the ride. This was told as far back as 2007! Now suddenly people are almost shocked as if this new information! Why exactly?? Its called Mater's Junkyard Jamboree! The title basically tells you what people were in store for, ie, Mater singing! And yes, Mater is voiced by Larry the Cable guy, which everyone always knew as well.

So I'm not sure where the odd outrage about this is coming from? This isnt news! Mater is NOT Larry the Cable guy, he's voiced by him. I wish we can talk about the actual ride. Thats all most will care about, not who does Maters voice.

Re: Mater's Junkyard Jamboree Test Ride

I dont' know what you're so shocked about. They changed Ariel's hair. They may scale back on the amount of Mater's Larry The Cable Guy's singing voice on the ride. I don't see why people can't have an issue with a ride or something that just rubs people the wrong way.

Ariel's hair never drove me nuts or gave me anything to scream over but the hair was changed nonetheless. I'm part of the Mater's voice is annoying because it's Larry The Cable Guy HARDLY ALTERED movement and I welcome the songs spread out in between other songs from the films and instrumental pieces.

Anyways, this all started with the OP revealing "There are a bunch of songs written just for this ride, and they were all really clever. If you are a country-western fan, you'll love this ride. If your musical tastes run more urban or classical, the music may drive you insane while you wait in the long switchback queue. You need to be really comfortable with the Mater character to enjoy this. The pre-show and unload spiels are also done by Larry The Cable Guy and are pretty funny. Someone put a lot of thought into this, and it shows. But if you can't stand watching old reruns of Hee-Haw, this isn't the ride for you." soooo....

Now you fully understand what we're all discussing here.

That actually looks a lot better than I thought too. I thought that it was just going to be Mater in the middle and you were going around him, but it looks like there will be little scenes in this ride. Looks like fun!

I totally agree with this post. It's not the fact that it's "Larry the Cable guy" the issue is that Mater was thought to be "kind of obnoxious" character in the movie Cars and to have him in a complete ride experience is just to much.

I don't have a problem with Mater singing in the attraction , after all it's Mater's Junkyard Jamboree,... what I do think is going to be a little to much is Mater talking in the boarding spiels english and spanish.

Some people are saying that we should accept the fact that Mater MUST be in the whole ride talking and singing, but that is not true. For example in "Ariels Undersea Adventure" does Ariel talk in the spiels , narrates, and sings during the whole ride??? NO ...so I just wish there can be a little different audio ambience during the que line so we can enjoy Mater only during the RIDE and thats it

Oh and yes!!!! I can imagine that WDImagineering will be taking notes and reviews on some pre-opening experiences so they can tune , edit, add some final magic before opening day. So our opinion counts !!! If you don't like something say it... it might be changed like Ariel's Hair!!! you never know

The original artwork concept for the ride had it as a whip on a track that goes through various outdoor scenes with props. It was not a figure-8 or circular track. It would have been unique and probably pretty cool. Someone posted a pic above. It's too bad that's not what we're getting, it could have been the sleeper hit of the new land.

^yeah....sad Disney will not longer even try anything new.....I mean I love what they have done the last few years...but besides the dragon and toy story.....most everything they have done is something we have seen before...Mermaid using HM type system, star Tours same ride but in 3D, Cars Racers..test track....etc

Just WOW! What a beautiful drawing and concept. It would be great if the scenes were activated as you whipped past them.

No majority of people were commenting on Larry the Cable guy himself and not Mater the character! Its alll in the thread! But yes, he voices Mater, its his name on the marquee not Larry the Cable guy! You dont have to like either, but I dont understand what Larry the Cable guys stand up act have anything to do with this ride?

And no one is saying you MUST accept Mater singing and speaking all in the ride...we are saying don't be too shocked if he does!

And the Ariel hair example is not the same! That was changed because most people who never saw the movie didnt remotely understand why her hair was shaped like that? Even people who have thought it was weird to have her like that when the point was to have fish swirling around her to achieve that affect and they diddnt do it in the actual ride. It just made no sense story wise, a little bizarre looking and they changed it. It shouldve never been there. But Mater talking and singing in his own ride fits the ride perfectly. People may hate the singing or the spiels but they will obviously get the point of it unlike the Ariels hair!

Eitherway, this has been stated since the attraction was announced 5 years ago. To suddenly realize Mater might be EVERYWHERE just weeks before opening shouldnt surpise anyone at this point. End of the day no one has to ride it if its more Mater than they can stand!

Naaaa I don't think Ariel's hair was changed because people didin't remember the scene in the movie . I think Disney wouldn't promote and make merchandise even pins with that specific scene of the ride . Obviously there had to be more to it than just a " guests don't remember that scene" they also had mixed reviews and were doing there research with fans. Same thing can happen with Mater , not only his voice can be edited but also music , ride speed ,etc.

I do get your point though !!
