Re: Better Ride Transformers or Radiator Springs Racers for 2012?

For someone is has actually ridden both Transformers and RSR, I'll eat my words I said prior, but RSR is miles ahead of Transformers. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Transformers and its THE attraction of USH at the moment but RSR is nothing short of amazing. The theme, story (which Transformers kinda lacks) and attention to detail for RSR takes the cake.

Regardless though, the 2 attractions that opened this summer are huge additions to the So. Cal. theme parks. Bravo to both of them.

I haven't ridden either but I've seen both POV's online and pictures.. It's already been established, their both spectacular attractions, but RSR at Carsland won me over... Maybe it's my Disney bias, but I think the storyline of RSR is much more immersive, while Transformers only has you sit there being thrown back and forth in the middle of a battle IMHO...

Transformers will be the ride in its park this summer. RSR the ride in its park for possibly forever.

I won't wait for more than 30 minutes to ride Transformers again. If I take the FP line out of consieration I would wait 90 minutes for RSR.

RSR is so much better in so many ways.

I have not been on either, but from videos i have watched, i think the ride that different everytime is what makes it fun. Escipañly being a local, i go to both parks often. And aside from Transformers tech. Being impresive its the same ride everytime. Where as RSR is different, from what lane, who "wins", to the Lugi and Rammone change.
But im glad these additions to both parks were made, it just shows what they are capable of in 10 more years.

Re: Better Ride Transformers or Radiator Springs Racers for 2012?

I've ridden TF and RSR (and even Manta if that counts). Transformers for me is more exciting than RSR. For some reason the simulated speed of Transformers feels more thrilling than the real speed of Radiator Springs Racers. Don't get me wrong, RSR is incredibly fun and one of Disney's best in a LONG time but my problem with it is that it's mostly eye candy. They tie in my book.

TF Wins in terms of thrill and excitement.

RSR Wins in terms of technology and eye candy.

I would even give the story edge to TF.

Re: Better Ride Transformers or Radiator Springs Racers for 2012?

I can't fully answer this since I'm extremely biased.

    1. I haven't ridden (but have seen videos of) RSR yet.
    2. I kinda, sorta work on Transformers.

What I can say is that both are extremely good at doing what they set out to do: wow the hell out of guests. From the reviews I hear everyday from exiting guests at my job, to what I heard last Saturday from guests exiting a WDI CL preview... everyone is just really freaking happy.

Honestly it's going to be incredibly difficult to top 2012 in terms of SoCal theme parks. DCA renewed, Transformers at USH, Six Flags attached a freaking drop ride onto Superman and Sea World finally got a roller coaster. Almost makes me feel sorry for Knott's sort of being left in the dust, although I'm sure they're content with just having this be Windseeker's first actual summer. I'm sort of anxious to see what Disney has planned when Harry Potter flies in to USH!

Believe me, when you see the animatronics in RSR and while you are racing through the rock work, you will say "WOW!".
It's actually "Cars Land", not "Carsland".

Re: Better Ride Transformers or Radiator Springs Racers for 2012?

My pick would probably be Transformers, but it's a tough call. I have zero interest in the Transformers franchise, and while I really liked the first Cars movie, I don't have that much of an emotional investment in that franchise either (didn't hate the second movie quite as much as some people, but it certainly didn't help). The dark ride portion of RSR is very good, and the racing part is fun, but from a ride standpoint not nearly Disney's best. As a means of seeing Ornament Valley up close and personal, it's amazing. I almost give the edge to RSR just as a means of seeing the mountains, but since the experience of walking under that arch and seeing the Cadillac Range in all it's glory will soon be available to all guests, no waiting, I just don't think a better vantage point is enough reason to put it over the top.

Will Transformers visuals look dated in five years? Maybe. If it does, I'll stop going on it. That's Universal's problem, not mine, for me it means more time for Disneyland. I'm certainly not yet ready to give Transformers all-time greatest ride ever (though it's not completely inconceivable), but if I could snap my fingers and be on a ride right now, I'm narrowly inclined to pick Transformers, not RSR (though having been on Transformers ten times and RSR only three, and having yet to go to Ramone's, I might pick RSR).

Re: Better Ride Transformers or Radiator Springs Racers for 2012?

Times on Transformers The Ride: 6
Times on Radiator Springs Racers: 4

My vote goes to RADIATOR SPRINGS RACERS for overall theme, execution, style, story, sense of fun, and detail.

TRANSFORMERS: THE RIDE is certainly a great attraction, well executed, a lot of fun, exciting but you can do it once or you can do it a thousand and each time will almost be the same experience. You might have a better view than the other time but the ride itself remains unchanged.

I've done RSR four times and each time has been different in subtle ways. Like I said before, detail.

    1. Different color Racers make it fun even before getting on. "Oh boy, I got the blue car!" On TF, it's the same Evac each time.

    2. Two pathways: Luigi & Guido or Ramone & Flo. Four times I've done it and everytime I got the new tires. Knowing there's another path makes me want to ride again and again until I've done it. Kind of like the fun of going on Star Tours over and over.

    3. Winning and Losing. It's completely random. Of the four times, I've won once, raced against nobody, and lost twice. But in the end, it's all very fun going side by side. It's a dynamic that hasn't been introduced in the CA parks yet. Knott's Berry Farm had it with their Soap Box Racers but unfortunately took them down.

    4. Animatronics > Projected technology. What's amazing about RSR is the rock work. You're IN Radiator Springs. You can see the Cars moving their mouths and talking to you. That's REAL. That's something you don't have to imagine because it's right there in front of you.

In the end, both are great additions to their respective parks but while TF will eventually get tired and stale, Radiator Springs Racers will delight guests the old fashioned way. The same way we still love Matterhorn Bobsleds, Big Thunder Mountain, etc will be the same reason why we love Radiator Springs Racers. TF may have the latest tech but RSR has something else entirely: real wind in your face.

Re: Better Ride Transformers or Radiator Springs Racers for 2012?

I've ridden both and while Transformers has better tech behind it, it was ruined for me by the fact that you don't move forward. I know that sounds weird, but going sideways killed the experience for me. it never launches and I felt like I spent the whole ride waiting for the ride to start. It was very anticlimactic for me. Racers on the other hand is actually built and not just screens, has incredible animatronics and although the actual racing part is WAAAY too short, almost to the point of ruining the ride to be completely honest, it's still more satisfying.

Re: Better Ride Transformers or Radiator Springs Racers for 2012?

I have not ridden either, and I have not been to Universal Studios in years. But, I did specifically schedule a visit to Universal Studios on Thursday just to experience the Transformers ride. I am way more invested into that franchise than I am into Cars, but I am also very excited for RSR and the rest of Cars Land.

Just to give you a better gauge of where I currently stand having not ridden either, Star Tours is one of my favorite rides at the resort and it's comparable to the Transformers ride system. (Huge Star Wars fan as well).

    We'll see later this week!

They both look amazing, visually. But honestly, RSR has that Disney magic that other theme parks, in my opinion, don't have.

I haven't gotten the chance to ride them just yet, but I have my vote on RSR. I'll find out in about 2 weeks
