I would say yes and no....its both a tribute to the old ride as well as "attractions" out on route 66

Any tribute to the much-missed Mine Train is always welcome! I look forward to seeing the new Land in person, probably around October!

I definitely agree with this. I think this was the perfect time to add a small tribute because it just fits in with route 66.

I am pretty sure I remember someone official saying this as fact. I'll start my research now...

Re: Rainbow Caverns in Radiator Springs Racers

OK... so it was at the Radiator Springs Reality - Imagineering Cars Land - presentation last year at the D23 expo. Imagineers discussed the orignal Car Land concept (No Pixar tie in) and the main ride (Road Trip USA) with the finale would go through a their own version of rainbow caverns from the original ride in Disneyland. The imagineers even remarks keep that in mind, since it will come up later. Fifteen minutes later John Lasseter says how he pitched themeing the land to the movie franchise as oposed to generic cars. He then explained how Radiator Springs Racers will be with Rainbow caverns. So he never ACTUALLY says it, but it is very well implied.

They actually use the phrase "natures wonderland" in the ride narration. Loved it!

To me, it looks more like the Mine Train at Knott's than Rainbow Caverns:

Rainbow Caverns was partially recreated in BTMRR, right? The first lift has the colorful water and dripping stalactites or is it stalagmites?
