They can have it as an attraction and a transportation ride. You know like how when you rode the people mover, it would take you through the Tron and Star Tours stages just to make the ride more interesting. Also like the Disneyland Railroad. I don't know if it still does this, but I remember when it use to take people through a Dinosaur stage area.

That is SO clever! Something from the Princess Diaries would be a really great idea in DCA! I never even thought about that... Dunno about a restaurant but something. The movie was pretty popular (I've read buzz about a third one coming) and the princesses show no sign of slowing with Disney merchandise. Seems like a no-brainer!

I don't think any transportation system that surrounds the park will work. EPCOT, DAK, and Disney-MGM don't do that. I don't even think Tokyo Disney Sea and Walt Disney Studios Paris do that. It's a neat little idea, but in reality, I don't think that will work. For sure a San Franisco Cable Car ride attraction would be interesting.

Re: DCA Improvements - Sunshine Plaza

    just a few thoughts

-if they do scrap the golden gate bridge/post card entrance, and if they are completely retheming the entrance, isn't there a side entrance to DCA at the Grand Californian? if need be, couldnt the entire entrance be torn down/rebuilt/whatever they need to do and just add a lot of signage at the tram station leading people to the GC entrance instead? If they really wanted to, they could completely rebuild the entire entrance w/ all new buildings and theming in what? 4-6 weeks? if that? after, the whole of Disneyland was built in one year. so one month of an alternate entrance in a non-peak time such as february isn't the end of the world for the park. would it be difficult to manage/inform guests? absolutely. would this inconvenience happen? most likely not. if it did and the entrance was completely rebuilt from the bottom up, could it yield huge profits/great outlook for the future, and get many unsuspecting guests to believe that the park actually is changing for the better once this new entrance opens.

-yes, I'm a youngun and i can't find it anywhere online, can anyone tell me what they did during the remodling of Fantasyland in the 80s? this part of the park was completely changed around, rides were added/taken away, theming changed from circus to european village, etc. did they close down the whole land to remodel it? or close parts of a time? well, anyways, it just goes to show that placemaking has happened before, with great success, and in the mother of all theme parks for that matter, just for all you doubters out there.

-is a woodsman/redwood theme really the best idea for the entrance? CA is thought of more for its sun and its beaches than it is lush forests (and this is coming from a native Californian who lives closer to the forests than he does the beach) if they did go on with this theme, and changed condor flats to resemble it as well, might it be going a little overboard with that particular theme? it would essentially be making 1/2 the park a giant redwood forest.

-what about making the entrance inclusive of all of california? perhaps starting in SoCal (sun, beaches, etc), and have the architecture subtly change as you walk towards the former sunshine plaza to one of NorCal-esque architecture, ending with redwood style theme, which would then blend in nicely w/ rethemed condorflats/GRR area. i know it would be tough, if not impossible, to pull off, but if they could find a way, in those first few steps, for you to give you a brief glimpse of what you are going to experience in the rest of the park. just a thought.

-if they did tare down the golden gate bridge, and if they did (i hope i hope i hope) install a cable car/train type of attraction that goes around the entire park, why couldn't they reinstal the GGB (or build a new, smaller version of it), in the SF themed part of the park? if done right, it could be a great weenie to draw people into that part of the park, between Screamin and GRR.

    what do you guys think?

I agree. The Golden Gate would be great thematically as a walking bridge between the SF "land" and the wharf area - right across that bridge that is there already.

To tell you the truth, I would be satisfied if the Golden Gate Bridge was relegated to its prominent appearance in Soarin' over California.

Disney should avoid directly replicating things that already exist, elsewhere.

Re: DCA Improvements - Sunshine Plaza

I hate the current enterence. I've spent many an hour wondering what would work best for the enterence. I like the wave fountain under the sun, maybe if there were a way to create that on both sides of the enterence, to get that feeling of waves crashing down on the shore. It would be beautiful and I know whenever I visit somewhere else, they assume that all Californians live on the beach.

After just visiting, I agree the hub needs to be redone. Due to all the planters and whatnot in the area, I never actually walked up the fountain. The area seemed a little too planter crazy. I think if they put in a nice small Golden Dreams building it would work nice. They would need to pick a good architecture though. Then the empty space in the San Fran area can actually be used to create a ride. I would love to see the San Fran area take over the Route 66 area and consume all the way up to the beginning of the Pier (edge of coaster supports).

All the Route 66 rides are dressed up carnival rides and could be replaced easily. Maholond Madness could easily be rethemed to the streets of San Fransisco. Maybe adding small rooms around the tracks so you are going through tunnels, into the BART subway tunnels, over the Golden Gate Bridge, avoiding street cars, etc. You could add an earthquake dark ride/Indy in the theater perhaps (not sure of the actual size). I would love to see an Alcatraz ride on the water. Maybe where that giant ugly Orange sits now.

Yes there are actually two...but only one is used now. The issue with doing that is that is a perk to staying at the Grand Californian. To have the entire days worth of people trekking through the GC is a whole lot of burden on the hotel and the guests staying there. But technically, yes they could do that.

I think a cable car system would be very cool. But a railroad (as cool as it would be) would be very impractical. First of all there is the layout to try to add, secondly there is the whole backstage area needed for the train roundhouse...you couldn;t connect it to Disneylands.

I think a cool entrance that would be very Claifornia is Mission style entrance that would be reminiscent of the Santa Barabra Mission with lush gradens and fountains. I think that would be sucha warm entracne. have the redwoods go from ticket booths to monorail track then make it like a mission garden or something.

I think they will probably work on half at a time, leaving all the gates to one side open. Then work on the other side.

That, or they could just funnel all the turnstiles into a hallway down the middle with construction walls.

Honestly, you're kidding-right??? I'm thinking you maybe don't realize it is Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure. So lets just have the OC characters, the Beach Boys, and Annette???

DL has New Orleans Square - based on a truly great REAL city.

We should have MORE California based attractions/lands: San Francisco, Carmel, Eureka, Compton, Watsonville or Mendicino, West LA, Burbank, Palo Alto, Pasadena, Sausalito or Yuba City, East LA, Redondo Beach, Irvine, Reno, Carmichael, the Avenue of the Redwoods, Arcada, Santa Barbara, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Seal Beach, Del Mar, Coronado Island and/or Tracy but not excluding Fresno.

California is the 6th largest economy in the world. It is physically bigger than Italy, England, Denmark, Sweden, France, Panama, Japan, Korea and Vietnam, just to name a few

So ummmm ...... I'm thinking igloo's and the ITAROD in a bugs land -for the the next dark ride? Is that non CA enough?

Ok the railroad thing was a bad idea(plus now that i think about it the only railroad that would fit is a miniature one considering the shape of the park compared to the magic kingdom style parks(tokyo is an exception). How about an trolley system that goes down the main thouroughfare with cable cars and pacific electric cars. It could easily be closed temporarily for parades.

This was something I had come up with back in 2003:

Trolley attraction in Paradise Pier land, the Trolley would be based on an animated movie telling the story of a brave trolley who saved fire fighters trapped in a fire by the pier carnival and, after being restored by the father of one of the firefighters, is permanently parked at the firehouse and becomes an official member of the fleet.

The Trolley attraction would premiere the same day as the movie for the Trolley, the premiere for the movie would be held at the Golden Dreams Theater.
