My thought exactly. . But the poor layout of the park has the desert theme squeezed in and small. A desert land needs a new home elsewhere. The Timon Parking lot for example.

All of the talk about the new entrance to D.C.A. is speculation so far, but Craftsman architecture is found in all sorts of places in California. So, if Disney does go in this direction, then there is absolutely no reason to connect the park entrance directly to the Grand Californian.

I don't know if you know this or not by Reno is the second largest city in Nevada, but it might work we could have Harrahs build a casino in DCA that would have a positive cash flow, Also we could have some legal hookers working there, it is legal in parts of Nevada.

all that would be in Carmichael land is houses and apaqrtments

sorry fresno would not work, it just does not get hot enough in Anaheim to copy it.
and are mexcian cartels and drug lords living a rural farm town something that disneyland wants to promote? But it would make a good tie in bewtween a farming town and downtown oakland. I think it would be better for DCA if fresno was just not included. myself as a fresnan would hate to see my hometown in DCA...it'll remind me of that awful place I grew up in.

I thought it was confirmed? I think we are all seculating on what will happen with Condor Flats? I dont know how we got the subject of Condor Flats LOL. One thing everyone agrees pn is Paradise Pier, perhaps saving the best for last?

Also I believe they will be starting at the end of this month! We will see!

The billboard is a weak transition that could replaced with something stronger, though.

Disney needs to leave the rest of the airfield alone and address the real problems, Paradise Pier and Route 66.
I agree that the in my humble view Condor Flats is ok and could use tweaks and perhaps low lying transitional pine trees rather than large luming trees and perhaps a different paint scheme and approach but keeping the desert theme...mostly.

However, I believe it appears as if they are working there way backwards, approaching the front of the park first, getting it handled before moving on. If they can build better areas in the front and keep a lot of guests up there, it will ease tensions if and when they replace Route 66 with expanded GRR theme and meet Paradise Pier, which will then go under for a massive refurb to retool the queue area of Screamin, the carnie rides, and eventually refurb the lagoon for some sort of nightly show...

Next attack 2010- the Wharf/San Fran theme

Promote the idea of hanggliding in the forest- extreme sports area known as GRR!
I like that. That could work very well and allow the retheme to forestation to work.

    I agree.

Maybe when the park opened and the foliage had not grown the transition of Condor Flats to Grizzley area was a bit abrupt. Now with the foliage growing and the garden between both of these lands growing the transition has become much better. The whole bottom level of the hotel is not even visible very much and the desert greenery with the forest greenery mixed in together nicely in this large garden.

The whole idea of the hotel not making sense with the desert theme makes no sense. Their are several desert areas with hotels themed to the craftsman look. Just go out east towards Palm Desert, Palm Springs, or south to San Diego and you could find hotels with similiar architecture in the middle of the desert. They are like Oasis or beautiful green landscape blended in the arrid dry desert scenery.

The other arguement about TOT being visible from Condors and also clashing is ridiculous. So whats going to happen when the area gets turned into a forest? Will it make more sense having a large hollywood hotel in the boundaries of a forest?
I don't think it makes a diference. Unless cities like Palm Springs have no hotels. Even airfields in the city of San Bernardino or RIverside county areas have hotels around them.

Everyone expects to have trees and bushes in every corner of Condor Flats to eliminate the so called "Cement look of the place"

I agree with what you said about how they are most likely working backwards nice assumption! I doubt they will expand the GRR them so far done to Route 66'. Dont forget Paradise Pier Hotel is in that area! so to change that theme would be a waste! Do a refurb certainly but not an expanded GRR theme. I believe the theming will end where it is at now they need to build up the San Fran district more and refurb/ retool Route 66' and major overhaul on the pier.

I know we are all concerned about what may happen, but when it all comes together, Disney does a great job! Just have faith and wait until it is completed.
It's kind of fun to do the impossible!

Very true, if they want to keep with a desert feel, Taliesin West (built by Frank Lloyd Wright) is a nice tie-in. It's located around Carefree, the northern most part of Phoenix, Ariz.

Ok thanks to a clunky old computer, limited time and a lack of material I finally present my vision of the redone entrance to DCA. Mind you I would add more color to this, more vegetation, more order, less chaos, and above all Disney characters- fab five in various forms of "adventure" on the mountains, trees, waves and hangglider

schucks, I love it. I think that it looks great. I think the park needs to have something like that that blocks the entryway visually much like Main St. Station does for Disneyland.

It looks great, are the mouse ears part of a mountain, or just at the entrance. They look kind of 3-d with the colors.

I think it would look more like a photograph and less like a postcard. The California letters themselves are a huge part of the postcard persona.
