Indy Boulder: is it shy or just broken?

In the last 3 weeks I've ridden Indy four different times and on each occasion the boulder has been missing in action! I don't mean to complain, or be negative, I'm mostly just curious if these 4 incidents have been isolated and simply due to my bad luck, or if this is an ongoing problem.

Each time as the vehicle enters the scene, everything seems to be working correctly, you can see the boulder appear out of the dark and it's spinning... until the vehicle takes the sudden drop, it looks like the boulder is 20 ft away hiding in the dark (not the usual in your face sort of effect). Its like the mechanism that pushes it forward is broken, making the boulder seem small, dark, and nonthreatening. Its pretty anticlimactic and frankly a little embarrassing.

The boulder scene is a fantastic finale to a great ride, and in my opinion if it's down the whole attraction should be down. I understand an effect not working here and there, but I'm concerned that this is an ongoing problem. Anybody have any info?

Add to this list of ever going issues that need to be repaired.

    Indy needs some TLC!

I've noticed that too a few weeks ago when I went. I thought it might have been just me, but I guess not. I remember it getting SUPER closer than it does now... :/
@Explodingboy IKR! Poor Indy........I feel like one long rehab for it would do it some good. Knowing Disney, they're probably already aware, and thinking of new things to plus the ride, and fix those problems.

I noticed the boulder was not working properly either on several occasions.

It seems to me that when I ride first thing in the morning after the park opens, most of the effects work (some just barley work) but then if you go back for a ride later in the day, a lot of the effects are no longer working. That is if the ride is not down like it always is in the middle of the day.

Good to know I'm not the only one who's noticed this.

I don't get why they haven't fixed Indy yet, I go to Disney at least once every 2 weeks, and it's always broken down at least sometime during the day, or I ride it and the fire seems weak, the boulder is "shy" & the music is off . I don't get it...

I've always understood the boulder to be spinning in place while the tunnel moves forward, how would it be possible for it "hide 20 feet away"?

The way I understand it, that animated gif is mostly accurate, except I'm pretty sure right when the vehicle takes the drop the boulder lowers, or moves out towards the vehicle. It definitely has seemed further away the past few times I've ridden it... it stays dark, and there is no strobe, and it seems like it's higher or set back. Perhaps it's an optical illusion and the real problem is with the lighting, or the moving walls. Either way, the effect hasn't been working the last 4 times I rode. There is no comparison to the functioning effect, the difference is very obvious. Others in the vehicle were left scratching their heads commenting "where was the boulder?" or "what went wrong?"

Disney After Dark: Indiana Jones Adventure - YouTube

There is how the effect works. The car very very slowly edges forwards, while the walls move forward and the ball moves towards you (backwards). There would be no room for how big that gif makes it.

yeah, there's a mechanism that pushes the bolder forward also, so that gif is inaccurate... Since the past 3 or 4 weeks it's just been sitting there. LOL

Sitting at which end of the track? Because the track the boulder rides on is just a super wide roller coaster track for the chaise attached to the boulder and is really ugly.

When I was there two weeks ago the boulder felt very "off" to me too, but I thought I was imagining things since I hadn't been there in two years.
