I'm not sure about this, but have any of the small statues at Disneyland's Hub ever been defaced? They are there for the guests to touch, pose with, and take photographs with.

So why can't Walt and Mickey in DCA be given the same respect, from the guests, that it appears the 8 miniature statues in Disneyland's Hub have been given all these years?

Bingo. Talking about asking for trouble! The things that people are going to do to that statue -- and with that statue -- and the photos they're going to post online, will get it moved to an inaccessible location faster than Disney Legal can email a memo. Meanwhile, they'll get to spend bucks having it watched by security, both remotely and on-site.

You shouldn't worry about the vandals, gangs members, Mad T Party drug dealers or us drunks messing with the statue. They'll probably have a Photopass photographer stationed there most of the time.

^ Oh, I'm not worried. It's been hysterical watching corporate Disney dump Walt's ideals then turn around and sell Walt as a brand. It'll be doubly hysterical watching them fumble the ball with the placement of this statue.

Disney's Hollywood Studios at WDW has an outdoor Walt statue at ground level (granted, its just a bust - head and shoulders only) as part of an AMPAS exhibit, and it's managed to survive undamaged through the years.

Hopefully this statue will earn a similar degree of respect.

And there's also the Roy Disney statue at the Magic Kingdom (which you can sit right next to in fact) It's not the first time they've placed a statue like this at a level that is accessible to guests. I don't see what the big issue is here.

The issue is that DLR isn't WDW. The segment of visitors who use DLR like a city park or mall hangout has no parallel at WDW. Behaviors like photobombing have a different frequency here than at WDW.

The combination of an easily accessible statue, the fame of its subject, bored visitors looking for something to do, friends trying to top other friends, and the internet, is virtually guaranteed to unleash the um... creative urges... of a certain class of DLR's guests.

    Wait & watch.

Whatever. I am excited to see the statue, I think it's actually brillant and beautiful. I want to take pictures with it, with my flute of champagne or my glowing drink. What anyone thinks of that is none of my business. Bye.

So.. what you're saying is people who hang out at malls and parks are more likely to harrass statues? Hehe. Just seems like much ado about nothing to me.

No, it's just that you get a MUCH more rowdy crowd at DLR than you do at WDW thanks to a segment of dumb parents in the OC area who think Disneyland CMs are their personal day care providers. Add in alcohol at DCA and the recreational drug use at the Mad T Party, and "Humping Walt" will become a new Youtube meme pretty fast.

Really? Has there ever been vandalization of Roy's statue in WDW? That one is ground level on a bench and as far as I'm aware hasnt ever been messed with.

Sounds like some people are calling the sky is falling prematurely.
There is no right or wrong in this debate. It is simply a matter of perspective.
