Re: Hoth breaks the Star Wars timeline in Star Tours

There is a video on the Star Wars Blu-ray set... but this was a George Lucas decision. When imagineers pitched the idea to him... he said what about Hoth? And they said well we have great ideas for it, but it would be breaking the timeline... George Lucas sort of said... who cares?

UGH! I'm going crazy trying to find the video!

If you haven't seen "The People vs. George Lucas" it's incredible. You can stream it on Netflix. It's a must watch for any Star Wars junkie.

Oh yeah I own that one. It's great and sad at the same time!!! And not to go way off topic but I really hate the prequels. You ever seen the Vader noooooo added to other movies you can find it on youtube it is hilarious!!!!

I don't worry about timeline. Otherwise I would be spending many a sleepless night pondering on how two droids, who are supposedly stationed on Tantive IV under Commander Antilles' watch, can acheive the liberty to go out and work side-jobs for Star Tours.

    Hmmm.

So the ship must have a Flux Capacitor aboard or something!

You're totally right, but Ive started thinking of the new Star Tours as a tribute to the entire trilogy (and the Original Star Tours) instead of a logical sequel to Episode 3.

Dont think the original intention was for the ride, old or current version, to fit into movie cannon.

Re: Hoth breaks the Star Wars timeline in Star Tours

    Don't worry about timeline...

Its called Star Tours the adventure continues... yet they say this is to take place before the old ride, as you can tell by the starspeeder 1000. (older then starspeeder 3000).

Then... Rex our old captain (supposed to be a future captain if the ride is a prequel) is in the que broken... he randomly repeats line from the old ride (future ride).

So yeah... there is no correct timeline to follow for this ride.

Yeah, I've seen it. I have the box set on Blu Ray and RotJ has the "Noooo" added in at the end when Vader throws the Emperor over the railing and down the shaft. It's pretty lame.

But I agree, The People vs George Lucas is both sad and great haha.

Whether the Hoth thing was out of cannon/time or not, just be happy it wasn't a scene from the Holiday Special.

I have a confession to make. I didn't know the FIRST Star Tours was supposed to be within the Star Wars Universe timeline. I always rode it as a ride that I thought was fun...

Re: Hoth breaks the Star Wars timeline in Star Tours

Again, the thing about timelines and rides is that (I think) it matters how much you could put into the ride. If they didn't put Hoth in then you would have one less planet and one less adventure (unless you changed what you DID on Hoth, but a battle is more exciting, I guess). It would limit how many times you could ride the ride without getting bored. Besides, the ride's still great. It's still in the same universe, you're not going to Romulus or something.

Oh and for the record I love BTTF. Best trilogy ever created.

Re: Hoth breaks the Star Wars timeline in Star Tours

It was John Lasseter's idea to go to Kashyyyk. The new Star Tours is a perfect example of anything is possible at Disneyland. I think that's what George Lucas was referring to.
