Re: Third Park to be Marvel Theme?

I have serious misgivings about an all "Marvel" park. It's a fine line, because I'd be happy with a 3rd gate with a huge Marvel presence and think that is a great idea. But I would much rather see a more generic theme like heroes or adventure that would be a good home to several Marvel based lands and leave open an opportunity for Disney attractions and some original attractions. I think some Pixar films would fit there better then in the original parks and you could toss into the mix a few Disney classics too.

But I think that if they market too heavily as a Marvel park they'll run into a lot of problems. The issue of what kind of park it is and whether its just a thrill park will be inevitable and make families question if it's a park that they need to see. On the other hand, its easy to market Marvel offerings directly to that audience and get them interested in the park. But the general public is going to have a certain perception about it if its called a Marvel park rather then a Disney park featuring Marvel. I also think that there's a lot of people celebrating in this thread, not because they want a Marvel park, but because they think this means Marvel might stay out of DL.

They're capable, but that's not Iger's vision for the company. He believes that every popular brand should be represented in every form of media. Original attractions have no place in this overall strategy.
The Mickey audience is not made up of people; it has no racial, national, political, religious or social differences or affiliations; the Mickey audience is made up of parts of people, of that deathless, precious, ageless, absolutely primitive remnant of something in every world-wracked human being which makes us play with children’s toys and laugh without self-consciousness at silly things, and sing in bathtubs, and dream and believe that our babies are uniquely beautiful. You know…the Mickey in us.

DLR has gotten expensive and choices are going to have to be made.

I live in No Cal. I used to live in So Cal and since I've moved, I haven't been to Universal Studios, Knotts, LA Zoo, Sea World or Lego Land. Why? Because if I am going to travel to So Cal, I am going to go to Disneyland. I don't have the time or the money to do more. I think that many visitors will feel the way I do.
That's why they're doing it. Disney's strategy of resort expansion has always been to rip off the competition. The Disney/MGM Studios were built because Eisner found out about Universal expanding into Orlando. Pleasure Island was meant to cannibalize attendance from Church St. Station. And let's just say DCA was not nicknamed the "Universal Berry Farm" for nothing.

Disney views every day you spend off property as a day stolen from them. When and if they build a Marvel park, it will likely be a big steel park because they hope the target demographic (17-35 y.o. males) will spend one more day at DLR rather than go to Magic Mountain or Knott's.

This is what I was thinking... Why not make the park focus on a much broader theme like Adventures kind of like Islands of Adventure in Orlando where they won't be limited to ONLY Marvel? Instead, they can get complete Marvel fix while keeping with elaborately Imagineered originals as well? I just don't get why people would settle for only Marvel instead of having a lot of Marvel presence in the park while having some variety as well? Doesn't sound too bad, in fact, it sounds like it appeals to everyone in some way, even if you don't like Marvel necessarily? Like a compromise!

Yes, I know. But I still don't think that this works in an area like Anaheim. I welcome this park if it means that these males aged 17-35 will go there and I can have DLR to myself.

Why are people saying a Marvel park is targeting male teens to young adults? If you are saying Marvel targets are 17-35 yrs old, you need to think about the audience at the same age range back in the '60 when Spider-Man, X-men first came out. Those fans would be 67-85 years old today. I am positive they are still Marvel fans even at their older age. I have seen toy commercials where the kids are like 7-10 years old. For the male audience I would say all ages, over many generations.

I am pretty sure there is a good age range for female audience too.

A Marvel park could be great, but I don't see teens and adults running around in street with ironman mask on now do I.

There are girl costumes for girls, which means there are Marvel fans that are girls. If a girl buy a Marvel costume, there is a big chance that she would like to go to a Marvel park.
Thor Girl Costume $27.90 - Girls Costumes

Kids Black Cat Girl Costume $37.90

The Avengers Black Widow Girl Costume $42.90 - Girls Costumes

If giving the opportunity they will. at the last school dance you could dress however you wanted. Hands down number one group theme was super heroes, not only was the majority in super hero out fits but they were all Marvel super heroes with the exception of a couple supermans. My point is they are very popular characters in my age group. Also do teenagers even play out side anymore? (with Tumblr in my life I dont even remember what out side looks like xP)

im not sure about this, I think a Marvel park could have sveral lands that could be as impressing as The Carsland rockwork.

When I was watching Thor I was imagining what a park would look like with a bridge like the one that leads to Asgard. It would be like a mainstreet of a park with a body of water dividing the different lands that make up the Marvel world.

The design and layout of this park could be very much like the design and layout of westcot. A Center point which could be something like Asgard or Stark expo surrounded by water. On the outside sections of the river/ body of water different lands intertwine to create the many worlds within the Marvel Universe. Even [Link to unauthorized site removed] had a coaster in the plans very much like California Screamin but it was mostly hidden behind large architectures of the countries that would have been built on that corner of westcot.

A nicely design Marvel park could be quite interesting and still entice families not just teens and adults.

Also, the name of the park would play a big part of its success. It can not be called Idsney Marvel park or something like that. The park has to have a slightly more generic name so that it can evolve. That is why I have suggested something like Disney myths and legends them park. The Marvel brand could be a subname used within the parks walls but necessarily have to be part of the main title. It would be just like Pixar within a Disney park. The Pixar brand is used as a surname for the attractions.

So was I at first but I can kind of see why...I see how difficult it would be for someone to consider something like Marvel a part of Disney property and in turn would see it as more of a distraction than a part of the Disney family.

I support a Marvel park 100% I totally understand why Disney made the move. Disneyland has kind of been losing the battle when it comes to the male 17-30's age group. It's a rough battle to win that demographic without doing something to feed their adrenaline and I'm sorry but for some people in that age group, Space Mountain won't cut it. I don't want to see the ENTIRE park end up that way but I can see it focusing a lot more on that concept.

We can only hope for the best and maybe away some nay-Sayers in the process.

can you imagine how amazing Asguard would be. Complete with a Castle. maybe an immense water ride showing the wonders of the gods. A tour of Odins Throne and maybe a hammer that children can try to lift just like the sword in the stone.
