Re: Trolley Troubles: RCT is MIA

I have yet to visit DCA since the huge makeover, but from what I gather it is very busy and I wonder how safe it would be to operate during peak hous. Any thoughts from those that have been

Re: Trolley Troubles: RCT is MIA

I rode the RCT for the first time yesterday, July 4th, around 7ish. Crowds were relatively heavy and it didn't take 15 minutes to get from TOT to the Main entrance. That having been said, a lot of the issues with this attraction are just growing pains IMO. DCA has just enough people in it to make everything feel alive rather than groan inducing in terms of the crowd levels. Adding anything new would really cause a problem. In the future? Sure...

The Newsboys show is TERRIBLE though.. I hate it when Disney tries too hard to be "Disney". The music, the acting, the dancing... Ugh. Good riddance.

They don't need someone walking in front of the trolley - Google up Eclipse Fender or Trolley Fender. There were a dozen plus patented designs, some folded in the middle and scooped you up like a big Taco. Real easy to make one for these "mid-sized"
    trolley cars.

Anyone tries cutting in front of the train gets scooped up in the basket, where they can either be released on their own recognizance back into the wild.

Or escorted to Disney Security and then turned over to Anaheim PD if they think it was a deliberate act of roughhousing or assault. If they think it was a suicide attempt, then H&WC Section 5150 applies and they can go for a 72-hour involuntary commitment.

I think once the 'must do everything new!!' blush wears off.. RCT will be like that as well.
So true! In fact, I rode my FIRST MS vehicle on June 16th, 2012! Yep, I been going to the park for over 30 years and have been to every MK park worldwide and yet never ever rode one until now. So a few weeks ago, I told myself when I go back to DL I would finally do a MS vehicle first thing! And I did! The one with the horseys!

But yeah its new, so of course people want to do it. I did RCT as I mentioned in this thread and while I certainly liked it I dont see myself doing it again anytime soon. I might try and ride it from TOT back to BVS to say I did it and see if there is a different spiel but apart from that probably done with them generally. I like to watch them go up and down BVS more so than riding like I did the MS vehicles all these years but never thought about riding them until now!

    1. The Trolley Fender/scooper would be more likely to knock somebody over as it sticks outs, and is fairly low on the ground.

    2. The RCT is not a real trolley, it is a sophisticated battery powered glorified golf cart. If somebody does step in front of the RCT, then sensors in the front could kill the motor. Even better, they could use an electric eye type device which shuts down the RCT if somebody gets under the front part of it.

    3. If somebody got hit, or stuck under the front of the Trolley, the first order of the day for Disney would be to get witnesses, CMs and other guests, while treating the person at First Aid and carefully documenting everything. I doubt that they would send somebody for involuntary commitment straight from First Aid, they'd send them to the hospital for "further evaluation" and wash their hands.

I think they should place an Entertainment CM in the role of trolley conductor. It would be awesome if they remained in character while in the trolley and described things like as if they were a true resident of the city and the era.

Re: Trolley Troubles: RCT is MIA

Similar to the Main St vehicles, the Trolley is more to be a part of the show than a ride/attraction. Since it's such a centerpiece of BVS, it won't slowly disappear, even if there aren't many people riding it. It's probably more entertainment to SEE it moving down the street than to actually ride it.

The trolley was open to guests today, 7/8. There was only one running at a time, but it operated between Newsboy shows.
