It does look good when there is a crowd of people wearing the hats, but only then. I was there on Monday watching WOC with a few people who had the hats and it really is unnoticeable unless you have a significant amount of people wearing them.

So with the show beginning at 12:10 am instead of 11:45, was that a result of a delay or what?

My guess was to make it so the crowds leaving Disneyland at midnight and the WoC crowd didn't all converge on the parking structure trams all at the same time.
I actually heard this said by a CM over the loud speakers at Big Thunder in 1995, "Please do not sit on the rocks. You will fall...and you will die."

Im going tonight. It looks real fun. I cant wait for it. Was it really crowded in the viewing area or was there a lot of elbow room.

I was there last night. When we came out at 12:40AM with most of the disneyland crowd still comming out, the WoC crowd was comming out too. It jammed up the trams badly.

I was there! My full video is uploading! I'll post when it's processed.

There was a long delay. There was an announcement welcoming APers to this special show and then a few minutes later and then it started. If I were to guess, I think it's because they were filming and wanted to make sure all the equipment was set up properly, making sure guests' hats worked, having everyone take the sticker off, etc. Since the opening is a one-shot deal when you're filming, I think they wanted to make sure that everything was in place.

It was really awesome! I think that subsequent showings won't be as crowded since this was the only one SoCal APs could go to and we're all fully blocked now. I think that's why they filmed this particular show, since this is probably the only time when it will be the most full with everyone wearing the ears.

Thanks for the video. I found out about the event from a MiceChatter and went for a ticket the day DCA re-opened, but it was already too late. Glad the rest of you had fun though!

I thinks thats the idea behind these previews, to get the amount of people who have hats up.

Thanks for the videos. Now that is just the coolest idea they've come up with in a long time! I love it!

Can you turn on the colors after you leave the area or do they only work with WOC? Do they have different settings?

Hmm.. this is the first time I wouldn't mind showing up late to line up for WOC. The best viewing is from the back of the pack to see all the ears glow in sync.

There's an on/off sensor, but otherwise no "settings." When the show wasn't going, sometimes they all seemed synchronized (like when everyone was leaving after the show) and other times each person's ears were doing their own, random thing (before the show started).

Thanks to those that answered my question. Mouseinfo also confirmed in their report that the event had a 15 minute delay. So the show should be at 11:45 sharp as its said.

Bingo. If these events don't seed enough hats, expect similar previews for DVC and D23. After that, don't be surprised if you start seeing dining packages that include the hats (for a charge).

Unless things go horribly, horribly wrong, I wouldn't expect this to go away. There are plans for the tech beyond Mad T Party and World of Color, and it sounds like they're pretty well invested in the concept. Then again, look at what happened with Light Magic.
