Grand Californian Hotel Lobby is reopen!

At about 7:15 PM tonight, the GCH lobby is back in business.

The carpet is a standard pattern, but the furniture is back in place, just in time for the New Year.

    Photos are coming...

FYI, they actually opened the Buzz Lightyear Lot today around 3 PM (the Strawberry Field Lot south of Katella).

DCA was very light today, especially if they opened the Buzz Lightyear lot!

I don't think they had much of a choice--it was probably badly damaged by the water laid on it, and as my wife learned when she took the tour of GCH, it was a one of a kind carpet that took quite some time to make.

We can only hope that they'll dig deep enough into their pockets to try to clone a new one, if possible.

I know that - and I want them to remake it (or buy better carpet then they have at the moment). The lobby is just not the same with out it (or maybe it's because Darkbeer took his photo's at night compared to all they daytime photo's I have). They also got the new chairs all identical rather than varied styles and they are all different color to the old ones, but at least they are the same style.

I'm just trying to take the Mickey out of everybody who thretens to boycott Disney and starts petitions because when something as trivial as the carpert gets changed - hence the smile.

    Good news!

    -----

As Disney's Grand Californian Hotel prepares to celebrate its fifth anniversary, we had already planned to replace the custom-designed carpet, which will match the surrounding marble. The delivery of our new carpet has been expedited, so the lobby will soon return to the atmosphere of grandeur inspired by the art and crafts movement. In the meantime, we have laid a temporary carpet, allowing us to reopen.

    Burnt Toast, thanks!

    :sigh of relief!:

It may sound dumb, but that carpet/marble floor in the lobby was my favorite thing about the hotel!

<--- makes google eyes at nearly everything Craftsman.

I have to agree: that carpet, and the way it tied in with the rest of that incredible lobby, was beautiful. I wish I could have a section of the old carpet they just took out....

    *sigh*... I love that place.

    Yay!

Where was this wonderful news quoted from?

I too love craftsman architecture, and the carpet helped tie all the different elements of the lobby together.

Disney had to pay for a license to use that design in the carpeting and the surrounding tile.

You can still see the complete design on the elevator floors, though.

Official policy is that for your first entry into the park using the GCH gate, you are supposed to be staying at one of the three Disney owned hotels, and there are signs posted.

But in "real-life", in the morning hours they enforce the policy, but in the afternoon (when it is slow), they allow anyone in.

Also, anyone is supposed to be allowed to reenter at any time (they want folks to visit the restaurants and bar in the GCH).

On a rare occasion, they restrict entry into the hotel. New Years Eve was one of those times. They had folks posted at the DtD checking for keys, plus they were asking for keys if you used the GCH to exit the park.
