Have you ever been WRONG about a ride?

So Disney tells us a new ride/land/park/show is coming.
Some of us get all hyped up, some of us are skeptical and aren't sure if it will work out.
But often those who are skeptical end up liking whatever it is in the end, after all
And that's one of the best experiences: being pleasantly surprised.

This is how I feel about most things in DCA. I already hated DCA with a passion from the '01 opening, and was not prepared to start liking it.

My boyfriend insisted we go see the Aladdin show, but I was cautious as I knew the rest of DCA was a flop to me.
I was completely floored by the show, I just thought it was incredible.

Same with WOC, I was reluctant to see a "Fantasmic Copycat", which it obviously turned out not to be.
It was wonderful in its own way, and so beautiful, I retracted my previous misconceptions.

Turtle Talk with Crush - thought it was going to be a dumb thing for small children where you watch a video of Crush, but it's actually a very cool show and so funny to watch.

    SO:
What ride/show/land/park/anything were you pleasantly surprised by, after you assured yourself you would never like it?

Or the opposite: thought you would love a ride and didn't like at all?

I thought I would enjoy any version of the subs coming back. I was wrong.

I was sure Transformers would blow Radiator Springs Racers out of the water this summer. Turns out they are far more competitive than I thought.

I thought World of Color would be weird. It wasn't. I thought that The Enchanted Tiki room would be boring. It wasn't. I thought that Star Tours would be... I don't know. I just thought I wouldn't like it. Now it's one of my favorite rides and one of my favorite movies. Same thing with Indy. Matterhorn was my first coaster (well, technically it's a bobsled, but you know what I mean) and I thought I would die. I love roller coasters now (or bobsleds). They're probably more, I just can't think of any.

I thought that Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage was going to be awesome. What a disappointment it turned out to be. On the other hand, I thought that the new Star Tours was going to rely too much on the Star Wars prequels and it would not look good, but it turned out to be one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland.

I thought adding Jack Sparrow to Pirates of the Caribbean was a good idea! I wrongly assumed that characters would be added in as if they were just part of the action that had been already happening for years. I was flat out wrong! Synergy gone wrong!

I've never understood why people don't like the POC movie additions...not being rude just genuinely asking what it is that you guys don't like?

I thought that I would love WoC as much as I love Fantasmic! and was sorely disappointed.
I also thought that I would love The Little Mermaid and Toy Story. Not entirely impressed with either.

I actually thought that Star Tours 2.0 would be mediocre, but I'm glad I was wrong after I shut off the "that doesn't fit in the timeline!" part of my brain. Always a blast every time.

For me, the part I don't like is the ship battle with the fort. For me, the music doesn't fit as your batteaux/batteau is going super slow and the AA's aren't moving fast to match the music. I don't mind the first two Jack Sparrows, but the last one just doesn't look right.

    This.

Also, I was prepared for Cars Land to be a major letdown -- lots of hype for the opening combined with the fact that I've never been a fan of the two movies. I admit I was pleasantly surprised.

    This.

And I actually thought the Winnie the Pooh ride would have the same quality standards as Pooh's Hunny Hunt in Tokyo Disneyland (I mean how hard is it to clone a ride?). *BLAAAP* wrong again.

I think for many of the oldtimers, the original ride is perfect as is. It had no main character. It was just an experience. The story also reminded us that DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.

Now with the new characters, the entire ride's story has shifted its balance to Jack Sparrow this and Jack Sparrow that. On top of that... you have Davy Jones telling us that DEAD MEN DO TELL TALES.

It destroys the original vision of Walt Disney and the Imagineers who created it.

As for me, personally... Star Tours was a complete surprise. When I heard that George Lucas was heavily involved, I was dead frightened. I was also REALLY annoyed by C-3PO in all the prequels. I was also sad I wouldn't see Captain Rex again. But in the queue, he's there... and the ride is just plain FUN.

Radiator Springs Racers also knocked my pants off. I was thinking boring Test Track but it's amazing what mountains and cool animatronics can do.

It is a cacophony of characters that make no sense. Why is the town helping Jack Sparrow steal their treasure? According to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Hector Barbossa was Jack Sparrow's first mate on the Black Pearl until the mutiny when he took over and stranded Sparrow, assuming he was dead until they meet up again during the film. So when is this taking place? According to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest this would be well before the events of the first film, as Barbossa is aboard the Wicked Wench, which became the Black Pearl when she was raised from the depths by Davy Jones. Davy Jones and Blackbeard shoved into the caverns, altering the build up the big climax. The entire focus has shifted. This is not about pirates and what is happening, it is a let's follow Jack Sparrow adventure.
