Does anyone know of the places along Route 66 that Disney researchers visited? Was a list compiled? I'd like to find out and trek out to a few places along the route one day. I've driven Route 66/I-40 a few times in my life.

The U Drop Inn/Tower Cafe Building in Shamrock, TX (built in 1936) was the inspiration for Ramone's Body Art shop.

Attachment 21869Here is a geodesic dome similar to the one in CL... many were found on the route, esp. in the SW states. In this pic, note the rocks!
It can be found in Lupton AZ... on the border of NM. It is litterallllly on the border. However it is wholly within the local indian reservation.
It's my understanding that the crew at Pixar toured Rt66 to get info and inspiration for Cars. They hired Micheal Wallis as their guide because of the excellent book he wrote about the history of Rt66. If you recognize that name, Mr. Wallis was the voice of the Sheriff. His book has fantastic info and tales from the Mother Road. The title is "Rt.66: The Mother Road" (how appropriate).
I saw a youtube video where they talk about what inspired them to do Cars, and the road trip they took.
