I think "phruby" is being facetious. It's actually a clever observation.

Why is Disney willing to duplicate something as important as Sleeping Beauty Castle?

The people responsible for these decisions possess an incredible incompetence.

    Nice looking float.

I wonder how much they spend on these floats each year...and if they are going to stir up the controvery pot again and take the float to DCA for viewing instead of following the tradtional parking of the floats.

I don't know why they did that since it only makes the park look even smaller, and they've probably wanted to phase out the DL castle for some time for looking so puny compared to the respectably-sized ones at the other parks, except that historians would go on a rampage if they tried to mess with the current one. If they copied a castle for HK, I think that DLP's would have looked best there, but that's just IMO.

They know they can do this because they speculate, correctly, that nobody outside of LA really cares that much about the Rose Parade, let alone it's rules or traditions. So they do it because they can.

The float looks awesome! I'm really hoping it makes an appearance at the park! I'm going to be at Disneyland on 1/2 and won't get to see the parade!

the concept picture seems to present a pretty nice float. i'm just hoping that it doesn't pour like its been forecasted. i don't want it to rain on my parade......*chuckles*...sorry, had to throw that in. don't mean to derail, but is anyone else going?

I think that Cinderella Castle (WDW and Tokyo) is just plain ugly. It is just an oversized and overdone piece of architecture, taking certain elements of Sleeping Beauty Castle and reusing them and misplacing them. The original Sleeping Beauty Castle is the most presentable of all the castles. DLP’s Sleeping Beauty Castle is a nice take on a castle with quite a bit of imagination involved (but that’s only because Europe is flooded with castles and this one needed to be unique and imaginative). Disneyland’s castle is superior to all of the rest. It deserves to be the tallest and most overt of the castles on this float. It’s about time Disney realizes it. Sleeping Beauty Castle has been lacking the respect it is so deserving of. Disneyland has been lacking in the respect that it is so deserving of. Hopefully this is a positive step in the right direction.

Although I find the carbon copy of an original upsetting as well, I also look at it as Disney saying that the original Sleeping Beauty Castle is still good enough; the original and oldest is still good enough for us to use in a new park. And that can’t be bad.

Just curious...does anyone know the placement in the parade for this Disneyland float. I may go and catch the parade enough to see this float, watch the Trojan Band and then head home.

i wonder if Disney imagineers decided to replicate sleeping beauty's castle in hong kong so that it complimented the hills behind it. After seeing several pictures, if the castle in hong kong had been made bigger the hills would have looked dwarfed.

I agree. The very French, almost oppressively Gothic, Cinderella Castle, as it has been realized in the two locations, is not as attractive as it could be. The building is lacking color, charm, and detail. And, the heavy, concrete look is not very graceful or appropriate. The castle, as it was visualized in the film, "Cinderella", featured a clock tower, so I think that such a thing, since it was central to the plot, is vitally important to include in Walt Disney World's vision of the castle

Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland has exquisite proportions and an expressive quality that appeals to me very much. I think that people would understand the structure better if they think of it in the context of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", instead of "Sleeping Beauty". The former film was much more unassuming than the latter, and Snow White, herself, was more demure.

While I understand the reason Walt Disney decided, at the last minute, to give the castle to Princess Aurora before the opening of Disneyland (and before the release of the film, "Sleeping Beauty"), I think the diminuitiveness and Bavarian styling of the centerpiece can best be appreciated in relationship to the fairest of them all.

The largest castle is decorated exactly like the Anaheim castle, complete with crowns and fabric. If you look closely, the Hong Kong castle at the very front of the float.
