I make it a point to ride the original version as much as I can and buy merchandise. When HMH comes around I stay away, I suggest everyone do the same if you ever want this overlay to stop intruding for 7 months of the year.

Well some like it more...I guess it's because it feels like an "E" ticket Dark ride in a sense of scale .
I also think it fits because its a Hallowen Version of Christmas like in the movie...so its really made for both Holidays...like the movie. I know some hate it and I get why but I just love it and if the Merchandise was cheaper I'd buy it
Corpse Bride would be cool to see, but I am not sure Disney has rights to that one, I think Warner Bros does, but I could be wrong.

I prefer the overlay myself, I find I enjoy the ride more and pay a lot more attention, and want to ride it again. The original version isn't really my cup of tea, even as a kid, I rarely went on it. Its not bad, some of us just like the overlay better.
Sorry to all but I like HMH. I care little for the movie itself now but I like the overlay. this is actually the time where I like to frequent the mansion.
...As I see it
Seven months ? I get the feeling of people who leave their Christmas lights up all year.
Does anyone know when they will open up the Haunted Mansion in September? We will be there 9/12 to 9/14...
To "Hell" and back
Halloween Time starts on Sept. 14, so HMH is expected to open on the 14th.
Here's the link from the DLR web-site:

I like the NBC overlay, my son is a big fan of he film, loved the Christmas overlay. How different is the Christmas vs Halloween overlay?
^^^They are one and the same.
Here You Leave Today and Enter the World of Yesterday, Tomorrow, and Fantasy.
“To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past...and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America...with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” - Walt Disney, Disneyland Opening Day Speech 1955
Although jaded by current Disney Company practices, Disneyland still holds a special spot in my heart and memories. Perhaps one day the company will once again take up the mantle that Walt worked so hard to achieve.
Interesting responses! But, the truth is, well executed holiday overlays bring interest to aging rides. People will always have their preferences - but it's not a BAD thing many prefer the overlay, and many others are thrilled when it is returned to its original state. I love HMH even more knowing that it hasn't permenantly displaced the original ride.
