Why is Haunted Mansion scheduled to be closed on August 27th?
My family and I will be at the parks the 27th-30th (Mon-Thurs) of August. Disneyland just updated the calendar through the 27th, and Haunted Mansion is scheduled to be closed that day for refurbishment. Not sure what is planned for the rest of the week yet. Anyone know why, or how long this ride will be closed for? Are they just getting an early start on the HM Holiday overlay?

Installation of the Holday overlay. Takes about two weeks. Haunted Mansion Holiday opens when the resort debuts HalloweenTime Sept 14th.

I really wish they would wait on the HMH overlay until after Halloween. Oh well...

:rant: At least wait until after Labor Day!! So frustrating.
Last season the original version of the Haunted Mansion was closed from Aug 29th 2011 until Jan 23rd 2012...Does it bother anyone else that it is only available 7 months of the year?!

The Haunted Mansion Holiday is still so popular so I don't see it going anywhere, although I wished it happened maybe every other year. My boyfriend and I visit once a year around Christmas time and it's always Haunted Mansion Holiday, sometimes you just want to the original version.

Does it bother anyone else that it seems to be available less and less each year as the regular HM? Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the HMH takes over for a longer period of time each year. :(

This would be odd, as the attraction is a celebration of both Halloween AND Christmas. In fact, its what happens when two holidays... collide.

I'm not much of a big fan of the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay.
It's not my favorite overlay, in fact I like It's a Small World Holiday overlay a lot better. I'd just wished Disney would put the holiday version up every other year instead of every year. I like riding the Haunted Mansion during the month of October if I can make a trip on that month. Cause it sure fits the mood and month of the season.

I actually prefer the HM Holiday overlay to the normal HM, and I really wish there was more Nightmare...at the park, so I am glad it's around for however long it's there. When HMH is there, the Mansion goes from being a "I'd like to see this, but if we don't, the world won't end" attraction to a "we MUST go on this!!" one for me. It also adds some variety to the park, methinks.
However, I can understand that if you don't like the overlay that much, seeing it there for four months can be a pain. I hate hate hate Ghost Galaxy and if it took over Space Mountain for four months, instead of a month and a half, I'd be annoyed.

I think with the HMH ride overlay plus the store in NOS that is pretty much dedicated to selling NBC stuff, it has much more of a presence than it needs.

From a DL newbie perspective, I wish they would limit the HM overlay. I wanted to make my first trip to DL in December but I won't because I want to see the original Haunted Mansion, not with Nightmare added. I am sure in am in the minority but I really don't like that movie.

We love the original, and while the overlay is OK, I have to drag my husband on the overlay version when we go. We normally try to ride the original at least twice a day and the overlay seems to just take away the best of what that ride is. But really, do they have to close it in August??? Why not shut it down for the last two weeks in September at the earliest. Give plenty of time for Halloween and Christmas. I realize that retailers like to shove Christmas out there as soon as possible, but I think putting the overlay out in August is way, WAY to soon. :(

The first thing I do is go on HM at least 5 times in a row when it returns to it's regular self.
