    Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland

I haven't seen anyone mention skunks but I do know they live in the area near Disneyland. Trust me - my dog got sprayed not once but twice by one many years ago. If you've ever been near anything sprayed by a skunk believe me you will never forget the smell!

    Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland

Skunks are nocturnal/crepuscular so that would cut down on the time you would see them. They eat pretty much anything they can get in their mouths, scavenge through garbage in urban settings, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few in the parks.

They are probably mostly mosquito fish, they can reach up to 2.5" as adults.

I do. That place creeped me out. I didn't mind the alligators, I only remember how it was so full that they had turned on each other. So many were missing limbs from fighting/eating each other. I wished I had seen it in it's earlier and more manageable days. In its last years the place was memorable but for all the wrong reasons.

Slightly OT since it's WDW, but the (real) gators love sneaking into Splash Mountain.

    Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland

Oh, boy. Aside from the common ducks, cats, fish, and turtles, I have seen a possum, albeit not in Disneyland. One summer before DCA was built, my parents and I sat outside some hedges at the Disneyland Hotel to listen to Fantasmic! While sitting there, a HUGE possum began stirring in the hedges, freaking us out. Apparently some pretty big and nasty spiders migrated to Adventureland alongside a large amount of exotic foliage imported into the Jungle Cruise to coincide with Indiana Jones Adventure. Wouldn't want to see that haha.

I'm curious to hear about this duck-eating bird...someone explain.

Its not California and perhaps not that exotic but here is a video of one might expect while eating in Hong Kong Disneyland.

Dinosaurs live in the park man! I've seen em with my own two eyes!

Also, yes, I HAVE seen a few ducks become roasted during Fantasmic. One minute your eyes wander then WOOSH. Roasted Duck for dinner.

    Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland

Back when I used to open Thunder it wasn't uncommon to run into possums while walking the track (and I'm not talking about the AA tree). Thunder was also where a hawk decided to swipe a sparrow out of mid air. It wouldn't have bothered me except it was only a couple feet in front of me when it happened.

On Jungle you'd get the occasional call for a "floater" which was either a possum that couldn't swim or a fish that hit the boat prop. Usually it was koi... but once in a blue moon you'd see a huge catfish (not joking). You'd see possums all the time on the night shift, and the occasional raccoon if you took the back tunnel.

    Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland

By now I've seen all of the critters mentioned here in Disneyland except for skunks. In addition, I've seen Canada Geese in the Rivers of America on several visits, a pigeon on at least one occasion, a dove occasionally (standard Mourning/Turtle Dove that is native to the region), and crows during certain parts of the year. Maybe I'm just more observant now, but it seems as though I've been seeing more varied wildlife more frequently of late (including insects, which I hardly ever saw in previous years), instead of just the usual ducks and sparrows.

Probably the biggest surprise I got was when I was on the Mark Twain and saw a cormorant wrestling with a large carp for an extended period of time. The funny part was that at the same time right next to me a father (I presume) was pointing out the fake fish (near the Indian child) to his daughter. Surprise!

Where in the world is that?
    Fear of the unknown.

They are afraid of new ideas.

They are loaded with prejudices, not based upon any reality, but based on if something is new, I reject it immediately because its frightening to me. What they do instead is just stay with the familiar.
You know, to me, the most beautiful things in all the universe, are the most mysterious.
