Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
Having been going to Disneyland for nearly 40 years, I thought I'd seen all of the wildlife there was in the park. I mean the obvious ones, of course, like minnows, sparrows, ducks, swans, insects, even the ferral cats. However, on two recent trips I saw creatures I'd never seen before...
In the small lake across from Big Thunder 2 weeks ago I saw a turtle slowly crawling up the bank. Then, at the same spot a few days ago I saw 3 crawfish swimming just below the water line. I never expected to see turtles and crawfish. Makes me wonder how they got in there in the first place!
Anyone else seen strange or unusual wildlife around the parks?
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
I remember seeing turtles in the pond of Bear Creek under the bridge a little ways past Big Thunder. Surprised they could live in the park really.
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
I have only heard about the crawfish and turtle sightings, but not surprised. Would imagine there's opossums, snakes, maybe even a racoon somewhere in the park wilderness areas. Another guess would be owls, hawks, parrots, and who knows what other kind of exotic birds. All of this guesses but nature does what it wants to do.
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
I saw the crawfish a couple months back and I was just fascinated that they were there. It was really cool to see.
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
I saw a possum several years ago behind the Disneyland Hotel
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
I see feral cats all the time. I heard Disneyland likes having them there because they control the rats.

True. The cats have several feeding stations throughout as well. There is one at the old Skyway entrance, which is where I have seen them the most.
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
I've seen the cats sunning themselves on the back railings of the Hungry Bear, but haven't seen the fish or the turtles.
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
There are also other wild birds at the park. I completely forgot the name of this bird but it eats fish and they're always around Storybook Land. They look like miniature storks.
EDIT: The birds I'm referring to are called kingfishers.
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
I saw quite the school of minnows in the little "stream" next to Aladdin's Oasis when we were there last month. I was surprised to see them. I figured the water in ROA and the JC was treated.
Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
You often find turtles at the castle and even near Aladdins Oasis.
Here is an Cormorant sunning in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle after getting a fish out of the water. Different birds, other than Ducks and Seagulls, often stop by.

Re: Unexpected Wildlife of Disneyland
I've seen cats loads of times, and a turtle once on BTMR.
