Thanks for the photos. It brings back too many memories for my wife and I. The dancing waters show, boats in the lagoon, the water falls, shops, and dining was a real treat without paying to go inside the magic kingdom.

Thank you for posting. I went looking for pics of the 80's online and found far less than I thought would be available. I had to resort to sifting through old photo albums but yours were 10x better.

    Awesome forum post(ings) ....

I sure miss those paddle boats @ the Disneyland Hotel (sigh, does everything have to be uber protected by CAL-OSHA now?), that new pool slide they have is an eyesore (poorly designed & I'm waiting for an accident to occur - (my opinion) but I do <3 the tributes to old Frontierland (& the themed decor for each Tower is a nice touch) ....

MOAR please! Being a local and very young in the 80s, I've never had a chance to stay in the old DL hotel. It definately looks more luxurious than today's.

I remember that they used to have a Polynesian show around the pool at the Hotel, at dusk, which involved tiki torches being lit. They also had the Dancing Waters show, of course. And that wonderful, giant, walk-behind waterfall. It was also a pretty good place from which to watch the fireworks. Add it all up, and you could spend a pretty good evening at the Hotel without spending a penny.

I posted on the Polynesian part in these forums a short time back. Do a search.

Anybody know of anyone who did the Fairytale Wedding at the Disneyland Hotel?

One of my favorite shots also from the 80's.

Would give anything to walk those grounds and see that huge DLH logo blazing red at night again.

It's funny how little things can mean so much. I really miss the old hotel sign and the express elevator at the Sierra Tower.

    Re: Disneyland Hotel early 80's

One fond memory, though maybe not at the time was, missing the tram on crowded days back to the Disneyland Hotel. Or the line was too long and starting to walk through the parking lot. Seeing thos red letters at the top of the Sierra Tower always seemed so far away through the parking lot but you always knew what awaited you under those signs. It was almost like a rainbow with the Disneyland Hotel being the pot of gold at the end.

    Re: Disneyland Hotel early 80's

One summer when we were going back to the hotel at the end of the day, for some reason we walked instead of taking the tram. My young son convinced me that I should carry him on my shoulders across the parking lot. I kept focusing on the "Disneyland Hotel" sign as my goal, and tried to ignore the extra load.

Years later we joked about how the addition of Downtown Disney made the walk back to the hotel seem shorter, and how the Monorail Station appeared to have been relocated.
