Disneyland Hotel early 80's

The hard part about was, we were always so tired at the end of a day of walking at Disneyland and the last thing you wanted was another long walk. Funny how things change....today, I would give almost anything to make that long walk through the parking lot.

The following pictures came from a dear friend who worked for Wrather for over 40 years. It was a project he worked on called "signs" where all signs at the Hotel were photographed. I am very, very fortunate that Bill has shared these photographs with me and also in that I can now share them with you. Keeping with the 80's theme, these are mid 1980's.

I stand corrected, looks like these latest photos are actually from the 90's. Here's another. By the way, I believe I saw this sign recently auctioned off on Ebay. Can't remember how much it went for.

More on the "signs" theme. Some of my favorites too...... relating to restaurants. My favorite on the list is the Monorail Cafe where the sign states: "It's Disney's own 50's diner. It's the place for cool cats on the go. Be there or be square."

I remember that entry to the hotel grounds near the stairs to the monorail station. It was kind of like the tunnels you use to go under the Disneyland Railroad at the park.

To this day I still regret never setting foot in the Sierra Tower elevator and taking a short ride.

This is a rare shot taken in the back of the Travelport. I think I may have only 3 or 4 pictures taken from this angle not counting stills from films. I rarely ever was in this section of the Disneyland Hotel and I don't even remember the stairs in this picture.

Here is another taken in front with a similar theme of airlines in the Travelport. I also remember once in the late 90's going inside the Travelport and there was not a soul in sight. It was so quiet and almost no activity whatsoever. Just think, this was the original lobby area of the Disneyland Hotel and had previously welcomed millions of guests.

This photo was taken on the other side of the Travelport from the previous picture. This picture setting is most likely familiar with many people. This would have been the entrance area to the Hotel from 1956 to 1970. Again, just think of how many happy families beginning their vacations entered under this structure.

Looks like there are several vacancies in the offices at the Travelport. I honestly never saw anyone in this area.

I know I sound like a broken record here, but I love your threads. They are one of the only reasons I venture out in to the DL forums anymore.

I never had the chance to actually stay at the DL Hotel until I was an adult, so seeing your pics and hearing your stories is very awesome, cuz my memories of walking around the area as a kid are very blurry.... Plus, I am an huge history geek, lol.
