I'm dreaming they will actually finish way ahead of schedule, (by September 16th) and keep in mind, "remember dreams come true".
Still, no big deal, would more disappointed if BTMRR was down instead of IJA, If I had to pick a choice of which e-ticket ride was down, it would be IJA anyway.
Our first visit in Feb., 2004, IJA, BTMRR, SM and HM were all closed our entire visit...and we still had a fabulous time... 28 days and counting ...![]()
My history of refurbishments and ride closures that I remember:
2005 - Space Mountain was closed when I went for a high school trip and It's a Small World broke down for a while we were there.
2006 - The submarines were being converted for Finding Nemo and the Monorail was closed.
2012 - The Matterhorn was closed during my entire week in the park and California Adventure was a mess due to the Buena Vista Street and Cars Land construction.
The point is even with closures you find other things to do. Just because one ride isn't open doesn't guarantee a ruined trip. The Matterhorn is one of my favorite Disneyland rides yet I still had a blast when I went earlier this year. People going during the Indiana Jones refurbishment will still have fun.
This is too funny. My girlfriend and I planned a 2 day trip starting on Sept 4th. We planned these dates well before the website's calendar was filled and picked these dates as it fit perfect with our work schedule. When Disney did finally post the schedule we found out we would be missing both the fireworks as well as Fantasmic by one day! Not to mention we were pretty bummed the parks were scheduled to only run from 10am-8pm both days. Yeesh! I know school starts and whatnot but dang! I used to be a premium pass hold several years ago and don't remember times like these, speaking for Disneyland only here. These times were usually for DCA while Disneyland would be open til like 10pm, or open an hour earlier and close an hour later than DCA. Soooo because of this we added another day, Sept 3rd Labor Day, to our trip to take advantage of the shows and nighttime at Disneyland Park.
Well what made this funny is now we have yet another reason... Indy. Indy so happens to be my number one, most liked attractions ... ever! It's my thing and must ride any trip. Even on days where Indy is acting up, I still like riding just for riding. It is sad that we only have one day of three to ride the attraction, but I still feel fortunate to be able to ride at all (knock on wood). It will make the one day we have to ride that much better. I feel for all of you who'll be missing out. It's a real bummer for sure. We missed the Matthorhorn last year and felt the same way.
Well, I'm relieved to hear that Indy, not Big Thunder, will be closed in October. I like Big Thunder better. I'm just wondering how long Big Thunder's impending renovation will last?
My top favorite Disneyland attractions:
1. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
2. Pirates of the Caribbean
3. Splash Mountain
4. Mad Tea Party
5. Peter Pan's Flight
6. Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin
Most other theme parks arent under the microscope that Disney is. After the incidents with BMTRR and the Columbia, both which can be directly attributed to cast member failings OSHA is watching us like a hawk. And most of the fall protection (despite what guest relations will tell you) is to prevent a maintaince cast member from falling down on that bridge. Its alot harder when your walking and the track cover plates are off on the bridge and you have to cross.
Yup getting the logistics together is a PAIN, I've been in situations where we tried to hold a project off, and couldn't, we ended up having to use a Diesel generator and a massive UPS system for over three months (to power a relocated data center in a Trailer!) due to a delay with a transformer being made overseas, that was supposed to be the first item to arrive, during that time we built two new buildings in it's place.
Nobody warehouses anything anymore, it's almost all Just in time... it keeps costs low, but if one supplier gets behind, big wrenches get thrown in, and you have to sit and watch, but don't want to "pull the trigger" until the action plan can be in place.
Especially with Disney, you do NOT want to set a date and then have to move it last-minute, Disney doesn't have the luxury of letting a project sit incomplete while "waiting for parts", as it equals lost $$$.

"George Kalogridis’ pet fall-protection enhancements."
Not sure I like how this was worded... sounds like very good management by george, stop OSHA before they show up, better to have it done by YOUR team, the way YOU want it to YOR Quality control than get stuck in structural review with some State Architect... that can take months to year, and have OSHA shut you down.
Makes sense.![]()
Broadway/Touring Shows that I've Seen: Peter Pan, The Lion King, Wicked (twice), Avenue Q, Young Frankenstein, Les Miserables, Shrek the Musical, The Producers, The Book of Mormon (twice), Matilda, Once, and Kinky Boots.
Top 3:
1. Indiana Jones Adventure
2. X2
3. Space Mountain
Woohoo!
When has anyone ever gotten hurt riding or working on Indy? Never or almost never? I've never heard of any such incident.
I hope this badly needed and grossly overdue refurb will enhance show and effects, and reduce the number of daily breakdowns.
I'll be at DLR in October, so this is not ideal timing for me. But IF it improves the ride, I'm all for it.
Doesn't Cal OSHA ever pick on any other parks other than Disney? I never hear about them stepping in and forcing other parks to make drastic and dramatic changes under penalty of immediate closure. This government entity seems to have Disney racing around and making every possible attraction "baby safe". Even if said attractions have been operating for as long as several decades without any significant problems or obvious dangers. Disney is obviously already the safest park (to the detriment of several rides and attractions i.e. Goofy's Bounce House, Bugs Land's bumper cars, Alice, Chip n' Dale's Tree House, Donald's House, netting on Jungle Cruise boats, etc.) so why does Cal OSHA seem to spend all it's time there? We could NEVER get a PeopleMover again because Cal OSHA would in no way, shape, or form, approve it. I approve and appreciate what Cal OSHA is doing BUT they are running amok trying to justify their existence. All this "fix it even if it ain't broken" B.S. is for the birds. They seem to have Disney over a barrel and Disney is in a panic to stay ahead of these people before they find some other reason to justify themselves again and do a total shut down of something else, remember Alice. What's next? Main Street awnings too low? Remove track down Main Street due to oblivious guests tripping? Cal OSHA could set up an office backstage and never run out of things to child-proof. One of these days that will probably happen. Just like many theme parks' on-site police stations. Where does it stop and why don't other parks seem to be battling Cal OSHA to the same degree as Disney? Is Magic Mountain really as safe as it could be???
One Special Friend is All it Takes to Get You Through a Bad Day. And One Good One is Better Than a Dozen Casual Ones
It's about time! I rode IJA yesterday and almost all the effects were not working. Rock not rolling, no fog in spots, indy animatronic not speaking, etc.
I wonder if they'll do anything to the old effects in the queue...
