13 Most Anticipated Theme Park Rides For 2013: Disneyland/Maic Kingdom High On List

LA Times Anticipated Ride Pole for 2013
    http://www.latimes.com/travel/deals/themeparks/la-trb-2013-theme-parks-us-11201107-pg,0,6813269.photogallery

Although 2012 was a stellar watershed year for new rides at Disneyland Resort, making the LA Times top 13 most anticipated rides list. Here's the list:

    13) Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - new rollercoaster to replace Hurricane.

    12) Bush Gardens Tampa - Desert Drive drop tower

    11) Steel Pier - Funtime Star Flyer: dubbed the tallest swing tower in the world (at 385-feet in height).

    10) Dollywood - RiverRush water coaster "will carry riders in a toboggan up a 275-foot-tall conveyor belt before plunging them down a 25-oot drop at 45-degree angle."

    9) Silver Dollar City - Outlaw Run wooden coaster coming to Missouri theme park built by Rocky Mountain Construction Company.

    8) California's Great America - wooden rollercoaster (built by Great Coasters International). The coaster will wrap uniquely around the park's Star Tower observation tower whie riders twist about at 50 mph for pure adrinaline joy in Millennium Flyer trains. The length of the ride is 3,100 ft., and will include a "terrain-hugging S-turn," along with "a high-speed station fly-by and a series of zero-G comebacks and bunny hops.

    7) Fun Spot Orlando - Park expansion. Parkgoers can look forward to the extensive upcoming upgrade boasting a water park, and additional thrill rides; including a 2000-foot-long White Lightning wooden coaster (built by Geat Coasters International), approaching speeds of 48 mph and reaching 75 f. in elevation.

    6) Morey's Piers - wooden roller coasrter. Yet another wooden coaster manufactured by Great Coasters International. This $1 million ride will "span two piers and dive under the boardwalk at the seaside park. The park is debating between naming it one of two names: Wildeoody or Boardwalk Flyer.

    5) Six Flags Magic Mountain - Full Throttle steel coaster. This will be a multi (tripple)-launch, record setting foot looper. Trains will be rocket launched into the record setting 160 foot loop by a magnetic powered propulsion system, then travel along before traversing thru a dive loop, and dropped into a tunnel. After coming to a stop, riders will be launched in reverse, cllimb backwards partially up the dive loop and then fall into the tunnel a second time. jetting forward out the other end. Next will be scenic flight scaling a humongous top hat hill twisting over the vertical loop and then off to more careening about.

    4) Disneyland - Fantasy Faire live entertainment stage shows featuring heroes and heroines, (along with the already established princess meet-and-greets) at thematic medieval village. Well, I honestly do don't understand how this got thrown into the anticipated ride category...but hey, we'll take the nod of recognition! Maybe some pollster thought that this attraction would "move" guests and "send" their spirits "soaring" - thus the ride connection.

    3) SeaWorld - Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. Penguin Encounter is about to get a massive, fresh transformation, complete with 55-foot tall glaciers, and various encounters wth wonderful little, feqetly nuzlzing penguens. A uniquely interactive ride "offerng varied adventures from a penguins point of view is the icy crown jewel o the new mini land..."a family friendly yet thrilling interactive ride" experiece.

    2) Cedar Point - Winged roller coaster. This Swiss-based Bolliner & Mabillard "cp alt winged" wing rider will be the longest, fastest winged coaster. it will feature a higher initial drop than related coasters. For examples sake, the accompanying picture is a winged coaster at Dollywood.

    1) Magic Kingdom - final phase of Fantasyland Expansion. At the head of the anticipated heap is the awesome tripple whammy Seven Dwarf's (swinging) Mine Coaster, the East Coast version of the Little Mermaid ride at DCA, and much awaited Dueling Dumbos (with a gaming queue that looks to be as much fun as the flying pacaderm).

How is Fantasy Faire so high? Also, wasn't it believed that Seven Dwarve's won't open until 2014. Also, the fact that Iron Rattler and a number of other Six Flags additions aren't mentioned shows simply how ignorant the LA Times are when they make these hypersenationalized "Top 13's"

I just have to say that "Wildeoody" is the stupidest name I've ever heard. Hopefully they go with Boardwalk Flyer.

Silver Dollar City is about an hour away from where I live. It's a small, but very nicely themed park. I know that there is a lot of anticipation in my area for their upcoming roller coaster. It looks really cool.

I would hope that the author of the article has. Fantasy Faire is a meet n greet. A place to take pictures and nothing more.

Morey's Pier's wooden coaster is not opening in 2013 and the fact that its listed as costing "1 million dollars" is an absolute joke. 7 Dwarves is opening in 2014.

With your logic, the next ODV cart to open should be in the Top 13. Just because it is in Disneyland, does not mean it will be great.

Like I said, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth, and I'm going with the flow (or riding along with it as you may ) because Disneyland can use the extra promotion. Perhaps they were taking into account that some of the guests may choose to ride a segway scooter to the watch the shws and visit with the princesses. That would make it more of a ride. See....it's all just a matter of perspective .

I agree though that the LA times lacks the professional credentials of respect earned and enjoyed by newspapers such as the Orange County Register, Orlando Sentinel ad Tampa Tribune. Also, I'm glad that smaller amusement park entertainment companies are recognized for their competitive investments, such as Six Flags, Cedar Point, Sea World, Dollywood, Santa Cruz Bech Boardwalk, Morey's Piers, Fun Spot of Florida Inc, Herschend Family Entertainment (Silver Dollar City), and Steel Pier.

Sorry that some of your faves were not recognized on the list, Rave. The fat that you gave then a shoutout is very cool, plus maybe some of their associates will read your post, and their day brightened by yoiur mentioning their rides.

I love the Boardwalk Flyer name. I'll cross my fingers (but not my eyes) that wise minds and good taste determine it the winner.

Glad that this popular poll represents a step tpward placing Branson, Missouri on the entertainment indstry map. You're lucky to live neaby. Do you go there often? What are your faorite rides and other offerings there.

The 7 Dwarves ride was considered to be an Imagineering project slated for 2014 earlier this year. Perhaps it has been bumped up to 2013. The Morey's Pier wooden coaster might have been moved up to 2013 too. Wel shall wait and see.

As for the ODV carts, any that offer churros get's my vote....strawberry churros, two of my voes.

Water coasters are one of my favorite rides. They get the liquid adrinaline gushing! Maybe a water coaste or two will send the princesses and little pricesses to the end of the line-up in 2014.

Branson isn't exactly my cup of tea. We mostly go there for shopping. We don't listen to Country music so we don't go for the entertainment. We used to have Season Passes to Silver Dollar City, but as they are only open select periods of the year due to weather, it's not somewhere you can just go on a whim.

The Outlaw Run roller coaster though will give us plenty of reason to go next Summer. It's going to have the steepest drop of any wooden coaster as well as being the only wooden coaster with 3 inversions. This ride is going to be sick! Wooden coasters are notorious for being "neck breakers" so I hope this one proves otherwise.

Here's more info on the ride:

LA times is pretty funny. Was the LAtimes headline the most anticipated theme park RIDES?
If so, they are pretty confused on what constitutes a "RIDE" vs. a Character meet and greet area or Animal display

Cannot believe that 'Iron Rattler' did not even make this list.

Disney should not be on this list because they aren't opening any RIDES in 2013. It's really that simple. Fantasy Faire is not a ride, Seven Dwarfs Mine Coaster opens in 2014, and the Little Mermaid opens in November.

I've seen much better lists from the LA Times........they really put no effort into this at all.

    My Top 5 would be:

    1. Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin - SeaWorld
    2. Gate Keeper - Cedar Point
    3. Outlaw Run - Silver Dollar City
    4. Full Throttle - Magic Mountain
    5. River Rush - Dollywood

How fun to see the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on the list! I'll be moving up there in several weeks.
