I remember those trash cans. So cool. What I love about these snap shots is the lack of strollers in all the images. All the employees looked put together, very clean cut and professional. Oh yeah...the guest also look polished..not a slob to be seen. Everyone cared about personal appearance before stepping out the door. Awesome stuff.

These are all so cool I wanted in on the fun here are a couple from my collection. I grew up in Anaheim and made many trips to the park in 70's early 80's A couple of these photos somehow got flipped during the scanning process so I need to get them re-scanned one of these days. Enjoy.

Jeez I just can't get over how pleasantly uncrowded it used to be, and the practical non-existance of strollers. I mean, I remember those days, but it seems like a lifetime ago...

This old picture and your question piqued my curiosity.

The original picture is flipped and should look like this:

The "Then and Now" side by side photos are really neat. The subtle (and not so subtle) changes blow my mind. The wall, the bricks/tile walkway, the maturity of the trees, even Main Street's facade behind.

Me: "Yes. It happened after a recent trip to Neverland."
Peter Pan: "Well, you can dunk your head in the pond behind us, if you want."

No kidding. You dialed in on that wall too, eh? Also agreed with the two previous posts about lack of strollers. I see kids in strollers today that are much too old for them, just riding along. Get up and walk the park like I had to when I was five. Geez.

Hah Thanks for fixing my photo now I need to figure out how to do that. It is a neat comparison from the 70's to when the other picture was taken.

Re: Disneyland Old Photos and Ephemera: The Resurrection

Please bow your heads in a moment of silence. I've posted a few pictures here in the past and I wanted to post some more. So I contacted my father, in Arizona, and asked him about old family photos as well as my old slides. Bad news, the Arizona heat and poor storage techniques have destroyed tons of family photos and 8mm film stock. One that I was hoping to recover and convert was 8mm footage of the Matterhorn (pre restoration with single cars). I took the film in the 70's as a POV from the front seat. My dad says all the 8mm stuff breaks apart if taken from the reels. My dad is sending what he has, regardless of condition. I'm hoping to color correct old photos but he says the film is toast. I'll go cry now.

Re: Disneyland Old Photos and Ephemera: The Resurrection

Here are a few pictures from the previously mentioned photos. From the group I'm with I believe I took these in 78-79. The first is a shot taken from inside the Matterhorn. I think I was in a car going up inside. I would love to be able to restore my POV 8mm from then.

The second photo was taken at the MTTNW. I remember this because the train was one of my favorite rides and when I got there I saw this sign. Too bad it's not clearer but age has blurred everything. I can't find the negatives to see if they suffered the way the print did. I have more so stay tuned.

Re: Disneyland Old Photos and Ephemera: The Resurrection

Looking at a few more of these pics they may have been taken in 1977.
Here's another from the hollow Matterhorn. I don't remember if I was taking flash photos on the move or was I on the Skyway.

Second photo looks like a construction photo. First the BTMRR and now SM? Things were changing. Notice the construction barrier at the bottom of the photo, not a construction wall.

OK, this is the last 'Hollow Matterhorn' pictures I have. Here we are on our way to the top. Notice that the top of the climb is open and it had a great view of Main Street. We can see a skyway car overhead and a cleverly hidden loudspeaker on the right.

Now I have a better grasp on the year these were taken, 1977. The band is from Covina California. I don't know anyone in the band but it is my stepbrother's school. They marched into Tomorrowland then up the CoP ramps. They played a few tunes then marched back out. I have more of the band if you are interested.

Re: Disneyland Old Photos and Ephemera: The Resurrection

Last one for today. Another shot from 77 and my favorite version of the Monorail. It must be the bubble top and the chrome. This is the same MR we were on later in the day when it hit a truck at the DL Hotel. We were sitting in the front car and chatting with the CM when BOOM. The car seemed to lift a few inches then ground to a halt. You could hear something scraping underneath the car. We sat there, just outside the Hotel station, for about an hour. The CM/driver was very flustered but remained calm and reassured everyone that we were safe. We couldn't see underneath the car but we found out that a delivery truck had wedged itself under the rail and the Monorail scrapped the roof of the truck. Something must have happened to the underside of the MR since we were pushed into the station and after being unloaded, the MR was towed off. I tried to get pictures but we were hustled onto a tram and taken back to the park. Too bad, but a fun story.
