Re: Columbia Remade Into The Black Pearl & Pirates Event

Ok, so I gather, since nobody can answer my question, that we are talking about the Columbia on the Rivers of America. Well, I think it's a bad idea.

The visuals that you see while onboard the Columbia are what really need tending >_<
I agree, but if they did a cool pirate fight like they did when it first opened would be cool. YOu can see that if you own the movie, its in the features section

Having the Black Pearl would be cool, but does it really fit the Rivers of America theme? I know there were pirates in Louisianna and the Gulf of Mexico, the Florida Keys, etc.,but were they really cruising the Mighty Mississippi?

Yeah the ship inside the attraction, the Wicked Wench is to be changed over...maybe they were mentioning that?

But actually I could see this being a summer overlay for the movie (like the old days of Disneyland) changing the Columbia to the Black Pearl for cross promotion. It's be cool for a summer...though themewise it wouldn't work for a permanant change.

That would be the kind of ground-breaking special effect Walt Disney would ask of his imagineers. It would take some thought but I'm sure it could be done.

Anyway someone mentioned how cool it would be if they remade the Columbia into The Black Pearl! I think that is a fabulous idea! I am not too keen on them adding Capt. Jack Sparrow into my beloved Pirates Of The Caribbean attraction. But I think it would be awesome to do the ship thing. What do you think?

Thanks. See you at DL tomorrow,

If I am correct I believe that Disneyland did have a pirates ship other than columbia but that was removed because it was pretty well beat up. They should have just revamped that. But none the less it sounds good .

When Pirates of the Caribbean first opened they had a big Pirates battle on the Rivers of America. I believe it took place on the Columbia. You can see it on the Pirates of the Caribbean DVD. So, Pirates on the Rivers of America isn't something unheard of, and I don't think it would break the theme too much. Besides - it's called the "Rivers of America" - not "Disney's Mississippi River"

Thumbs down Re: Columbia Remade Into The Black Pearl & Pirates Event

Where are all of those MiceChat "purists" that protested the whole idea of a movie tie-in POTC makeover? The thought of messing with Disney history (Walt's last ride, etc.) was anathema to the faithful ...... where are the protests to the idea of messing with "real" history?

    Here's one .......

I still oppose those changes to POTC, we're talking about the Rivers of America

I don't know, turning the Columbia into the Black Pearl? Do movies have to invade every single aspect of Disneyland?

Re: Columbia Remade Into The Black Pearl & Pirates Event

Well, if they do have the premiere at DL again....stay faaaar away!! We timed our trip wrong and were there....and the day of the premier wasnt too bad actually....but the week before was AWFUL...for 15 years I had worked in Entertainment Production (in fact our sis company was doing some lighting for the event..but could i swing passes...uhh..no) anyhoo....the planning was AWFUL..they had most of NOS closed off for the week, building big scafolding and such for the seating and private party...ugh...made getting around the park almost impossible..and the laying of the aisle carpet was bizarre....that is exactly what I did for my job was these special events..and I seriously watched like 8 union guys try to figure out how to get a wrinkle out of the carpet...the only way is to cut and notch it out, if you have a long run....anyway....I know its not interesting, but what IS, is that these union guys were supposed to be specialists and no one could do anything very well....what there were WAY Tooooo many of were the managers, all wearing black and having their laminates and walkie talkies, furiously screaming on them at all times...waaay too many Chiefs at the event trying to look important and not doing anything at aaaaalllll....it was also funny to see the Red Carpet sitters....not regular Disney folks, but these people looked like this is their thang....to go to the red carpet events and serioulsy CAMP out....they were ALL along main street..with their pillows, blankets and tons and tons and tons of food....they all claimed their turf, plopped or layed down and that was it....wow....a GOOD day for people watching....I really wanted to snag my beloved MS porch...but the people already there looked like they would cut me if I took one step up there...so i didnt..hehe...we did watch the red carpet processional.....and it was mostly C list celebs...seriously...Tommy Smothers, Linda Carter were two I remember...whooot!! I was THIS close to Tommy Smothers!! hehe...worth the 12 hours in the blaring sun!!
    hehe
Anyhoo....They did use the Prate ship as the Black Pearl, kind of...because they had the stars and the director ride the ship to TSI to introduce the movie which was shown there on the a HUGE screen...Im sure it was UBER cool if you got to go..but if you didnt....it was one of the worst weeks in the park EVA!
If they do a Pirates Event for regular Disney folk that would be great...but if its the actual Movie premiere again...you gotta beware of more than just the Black Pearl!! Yeeps!

Well this isn't (or most dont seem to be viewing it as) a permanant change like the messing with of PoTC...this sounds like a quick summer overlay for the movie. I think that's cool...it'll be something unique for the summer. Now as far as making this a permanant thing...I would not be a fan.

where do they keep that big crocodile during the day? I bet they could build something on that scale that could be hidden somewhere.

I think it would be a lot easier to write the Columbia (heck, and the Mark Twain -- leaving aside the obvious anachronism) into "Dead Man's Chest."
