haha did Disney steal those from LAX? looks like the little tractors on the tarmac that pull baggage and i've never actually seen those before. i've always wondered if there is someone inside driving the floats?

I have nothing against them and like some on here have said they only have them out if the float breaks down during the parade I have seen this happen twice fro Parade Of Dreams one was with the Ursula float where it stop on Main Street and when they open the back all this water came splating everywhere and yes some people did get wet and the other float well how does this picture tell you.

Look at the look with the girl in red. It's priceless lol.

They should give it a paint job to make it a little more appealing.

I'm very surprised Disney has not "themed" them. Like someone else said, but some eyes on them like Carsland cars or something. And make it to where you can't see the driver.

I'm sure nobody loves seeing the tow truck, but sometimes it's unavoidable. it's nothing to get upset about. Hate is a strong word.

That particular float carries the dance platforms that the performers use during the parade stops. They are an important part of the choreography. The float couldn't be left out without significantly altering the performance.

I agree that the tug could be better themed. My guess is that it is just considered a piece of industrial equipment that is used backstage to pull parade pieces around. They probably don't *intend* for it to be seen by guests.

those "tow Trucks" are basic standard backstage vehicles used not just for floats but for pulling trailers and other huge heavy objects that need a trailer hitch to different areas of the park and such. Because they are strong and bulky that's why they are used. And since they are primarily used back stage or on stage after park hours, the look of them is probably an after thought. I have never seen them so far used on stage during park hours so im assuming when it does happen its few and far between.

Re: Who else hates seeing this during a parade?

I used to be in parades. As mentioned, they are only used if a float breaks down mid-parade. Since (hopefully) that's not often, it's not really practical to have one themed to each individual float.

It's more important, and safer for the performers, to just get one out there as quickly as possible. Because if one float breaks, the entire parade comes to a standstill, doing their choreography in the same spot over and over, until it's moving again. Trying to find the "correctly themed one" would significantly delay this.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

In architecture this would be known as "Form follows function." As others have said they serve the purpose of transporting a parade float that has broken down. It is the same as when one of the Monorails breaks down, they have a "mono-tractor" that tows it backstage for repairs.

The monorail tug is painted blue now, I saw it out tonight (my first time seeing it). It went cruising past the esplanade way faster than a normal monorail does.
