The shirt's fine. But that hat? My eyes!!
Doesn't really bother me. It's ctually more attractive than a lot of their other stuff. Disney is an idol to many, so why wouldn't many want a shirt of him?
Walt is essentially a marketing tool as well & has had an incredible influence on American culture. I for one am not shocked that Disney decided to make these shirts.
Instead of being bothered by a shirt, I'm just personally not going to buy the shirt.![]()
I would wear that shirt. There are other images I think would make better shirts, but I think there are lots of people that feel Walt is their hero. What a great person to keep in the public mind. As for exploitation, sure. Nobody did exploitation better than Walt. Walt understood branding well before it became a concept in the public consciousness.
Really? Walt exploited himself. Disneyland the TV show? He put his own face on the product, and that was after him questioning whether or not television would be a successful medium of any sort. That being said, I really have no problem with the shirt. Walt is a huge hero/idol to me, and I would proudly wear a shirt with Walt on it. That hat, however, is just ugly.

Yes, that hat is hideous-the shirt not so much.
Walt did exploit himself because he wanted to get the word out about a certain theme park he was building.
Did the the company he founded splash his likeness on various articles of clothing like a rock star for any purpose other than
making a few bucks?

The Walt Disney Company doesn't do ANYTHING for any purpose other than making a few bucks.

"If theme parks, with their pasteboard main streets, reek of a bland, safe, homogenized, whitebread America, the Renaissance Faire is at the other end of the social spectrum, a whiff of the occult, a flash of danger and a hint of the erotic. Here, they let you throw axes. Here are more beer and bosoms than you'll find in all of Disney World." - Chicago journalist Neil Steinberg
I think the cap is tacky, but I will buy the shirt that says "It was all started by a mouse." I mean, Walt named his park after himself, so he was definitely not above making himself the face of his creation.

What was it that made Walt's standards so high?

I love this shirt. It's not tacky, its a simple design, and it pays tribute to Walt. Exploitation would have Walt sagging, surrounded by Pixar characters, and in the style of a Simpson.
I really don't see the problem.
