Don't worry, because:
A. It doesn't bring in crowds, and the only crowded area is down Main Street and in part of the Hub where they film. If not there, you wouldn't even know it's happening.
Also since the weather looks to be good they will probably finish filming on Saturday, Sunday is really the back up day.
Read the beginning of the thread. It's been scheduled for the 3rd and 4th for over a month.
The WDW part of the parade used to be live, but they started taping the first weekend in December several years ago for the Florida parts (when the weather is nice... usually on Christmas it's gloomy/raining). Not sure if the Disneyland parts were ever live (probably not because the parade ran from 10am-12pm on the east coast, which would be 7am-9am on the west).
Do we know who is performing/celebrity guests and hosts are?
The Backstreet Boys have tweeted that they'll be there taping this Sunday.

Be aware, it is very sporadic. It isn't like the normal "parade". They are filming. And they don't do the entire parade route, the floats move to the filming area. If you want to be in the filming, dress like its Christmas and be prepared to sit and wait a while. Last year, I believe they filmed the Castle part on Saturday night. It was very interesting to watch how it all was done.

If you look at Dance The Magic's website, you will see they have the 2nd scheduled for rehearsals, the 3rd for the parade filming, and the 4th for back up filming. They tell the dancers to be prepared to be there the entire day Friday adn Sant, until 3 on Sunday.
If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.
Just as the Christmas Celebrations including the Christmas Parade will be an upcharge nextyear - the one that airs on tv will go to Pay-per-view next year.
Gold Mickey says:
I really like the Disney Christmas Parade and I am sad now everyone will have to pay extra to see it at Disneyland.
It can also be a good idea to stop in the Grand California Hotel Lobby and see if a stage is set up.
Last year on Sunday the 6th around 4 PM, Christina Aguilera performed in the Lobby for about 150 people. She sang 2 songs and then people stood around listening and swaying back and forth to playback of it for the crowd shots of her performance. Of course I got there 3 minutes too late and only got to be there for all the playback and crowd shots.
If there is a stage set up, you might just want to hang around there and see who shows up to sing.

If I'm not mistaken, Christina's performance was moved indoors to the Grand last year because of rain on Sunday. Musical performances are usually all performed in the park. Some of them are done on a stage in front of the Castle. Often they'll film a performance by the latest Disney Channel teeny bopper star no one over the age of 13 has heard of on Main Street during or after the parade taping, on a float or mobile stage. But, I would agree, it can't hurt to check indoors, especially if the weather looks iffy. Hopefully, folks who go early on Saturday will find out who the performers are and post the info. I usually always check here and other sites.
