Yeah but WDW's pirates is already screwed up, so it's okay to ruin it even more. Disneyland's on the other hand can do without the mermaids.

I'd be up for mermaids but only as a reflection in the water, shadow displayed on the cave or maybe their siren call. Sung by Gemma Ward ~ Jolly sailor bold. As a hint of mermaids lurk in these caves.

The only ride that should have Pirates and Mermaids is Peter Pan.

I certainly don't want to be accused of not accepting change and keeping Disneyland a museum...however, I know that I felt almost violated when I saw the new addition of the movie Pirates to the beloved POTC ride for the first time and I adored the movies...but., wow, it really messed with my childhood memories of my beloved POTC. I hope they don't add in the mermaids....seems like too much to me.

How about something without a movie tie-in.....

It is very corny. I think if Davy Jones had more of a ghostly image like in this concept art...

and had less and better dialog, It would be better.

This is exactly what I was thinking just a noise and maybe projection in the cave walls not from the water fog mist screen hopefully they don't over do it in wdw

Re: Is Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean getting mermaids?

Disneyland's POTC is fortunate as in the setup of Dead Man's Cove is MUCH different than Florida's (the pictured concept art). Over in Florida you don't start out in a bayou leading down a waterfall and into the depths of pirate hell. You start out in a 1700's lagoon in the Caribbean, entering a mysterious grotto filled with the remains of poor pirates, most notably the pirates of Dead Man's Cove and the lone soul aboard the hurricane-thrashed ship. That's it. You full-on approach Dead Man's Cove straight up, hence why the mermaid additions would work better here. There is even an open space to have that oddly-placed lighthouse. In a way, if the siren calls were added and the mermaid animatronics were realistic, this would be a somewhat welcome change...I'm not too thrilled about the idea, but I won't judge until it actually happens.

Disneyland's Dead Man's Cove is lucky. You go down a waterfall and quickly turn to the right. As you pass by the skeletal remains on the beach you're pretty crammed in there, surrounded by jagged rocks and waterfalls. The skeletons are placed differently and the only available place for the lighthouse addition would make no thematic sense as it overlooks another area of the cave and shows boats rolling down the second drop. We're safe. The only place there could be mermaids here are Hurricane Lagoon...better not give them any ideas. I remember a rumor a while back of the skeleton on the ship turning briefly into a human with every flash of lightning.
