WDW's Pirates shouldn't exist in the first place.

Mermaids on Pirates? Heavens, No..... On the other hand, give me nice animatronic of Penelope Cruz and I'm riding again and again and again ......

So we're now making judgements on an element that hasn't even appeared yet?? Give them a chance. They're trying to give guests a refreshed attraction that they've been going on for the past 40+ years.
The ride to this day is a fan Favorited....it still wins awards and many even call it the only true E ticket ride

I'm up for enhancing the ride like new fog effect, lightening, better moving/looking animtronic's and things that would only make everyone happy over putting some mermaids from a "non classic" film just because they can.

Change for the shake of Change makes not sense...Change because it is needed or wanted is the change I want not...just throwing into random characters from movies

While I don't think it's necessary for Disney to add full Mermaid audio animatronics, I wouldn't mind them adding "hints" that they may be near. Perhaps playing the siren's wail at the beginning of the attraction somewhere or some rippling of the waves. I still want to see Barbossa removed in favor of the original Blackbeard though!

"Johnny Sailor Bold" needs to be heard right after the first drop, and then fade out once you get to the hurricane scene. "A Pirate's Life For Me" kills the mood in an otherwise eerie cavern.

For me, POTC is getting old, it drastically needs a refresher, and not just better moving animatronics or more lighting.
    Fear of the unknown.

They are afraid of new ideas.

They are loaded with prejudices, not based upon any reality, but based on… if something is new, I reject it immediately because it’s frightening to me. What they do instead is just stay with the familiar.
You know, to me, the most beautiful things in all the universe, are the most mysterious.

Getting old? It was just updated 6 years ago with the movie tie in junk. The more attractions are un-necessarily "upgraded", the more the original intent, story, and structure of the attraction goes bye-bye. Might as well quit calling it Pirates of the Caribbean and call it The Great Movie Rip Off. Disney needs to get rid of the mist screen and bring back the creepy dark area with ghostly voices warning that dead men tell no tales.

This my friends is the internet age....a good ride is only good if it is changed every few years

It the story went unchanged for 35 years and people still loved it...gets a "new" story and already its old....or just so bland and boring that people demand more crap until the whole ride is just an Ad for a movie and....nothing more

I agree with everybody who says to take the movie stuff off the ride. They should restore it completely to it's original, opening version.

    But they won't.

And one can only wonder, how much longer until Nemo takes his place there?

As long as Disney does the mermaids very detailed, realistic, while staying true to original attraction way then I think the addition would be fine. Then again that is very tricky

For the most part, the ride now - esp with the removal of America Sings - is the AA showpiece. There is no other ride currently that has as many AA figures, so its not surprising that they consider adding things to the ride as that is the one place they can try out newer processing/developments with realistic AA's

I'm kind of curious to see where they go with this. I'm not too sure about having animatronic mermaids though, because one thing I've noticed with water-bound animatronics is that they tend to look... hokey. (See Nemo Submarine Voyage.)

    No.
    No.
That is one thing I am NOT at all interested in seeing on the ride. Not one bit. No thank you.
