WoC Operation - What's it like now?

So I will be making a trip to Disneyland in January, and I was curious to hear what the current situation with WoC FP's and viewing areas was since it seems to have changed since I last researched it. I've only been to WoC once and that was a year ago in September, and we got stuck with a crappy spot and I'd like to avoid it again.

    Specific questions include:

    1. Is there only two viewing "colors" now?
    2. Do they rotate?
    3. Any decent way to ensure that you get yourself into one or the other? I.e. do they give out one color of FP's in the morning and one in the afternoon?
    4. What will the performance schedule typically look like for Jan 10-16? I know it's off-season but I don't know if WoC still runs nightly/duel nightly then.

    Thanks for filling me in.

Re: WoC Operation - What's it like now?

I just saw WOC Sunday night, and although we had "reserved" seating because we did a dining package I observed a few things about the other sections.
Most people arrived VERY early I would guess approx an hour before the 8:45 we were instructed. I can't hang with that, and I don't do it for F! either. (we actually watched F! while in line for gumbo on Saturday and had a perfect view!)

People One section was the "wet" front area (just below the reserved area), and it got very wet. The other sections were behind us and behind them the disabled seating.

We had a good view, no obstructions other than 1 dad with a toddler on his shoulders (don't get me started ....)

There were many people behind us trying to move about to get a better view, send their kids closer to the front, or shift around people to find clearer viewing paths. I was glad I was not them.

I was with a group that did NOT get a dining package and got their fast passes early in the am (before 10 am) they ended up with blue I think it was and they were behind us. Now I do understand that if you are in that area, you need to get there earlier if you want to be in the front of that viewing area and closer than the masses of people who will arrive later.

I don't have exact info on distribution of colors to time of day.

But when we were there in early Feb of this year there were still 2 shows, 9 and 10:30 I think. And the park closed at about 10, so we had to enter the park after closing and line up near Redwood Creek Challenge (of I hope thats the name of the thing ...) and then we were escorted to the viewing area. Each color lined up in a different place throughout the park and was escorted to the viewing area as they were trying to control the traffic of people leaving the park at the same time.

I know a dining package isn't in everyones budget ( and I have a small budget so I understand ) But i force myself to get it each time I want to watch WOC because it makes sense for me. No waiting, I get good food, great viewing area....Im short so this is important for me.

Hope I helped a little, enjoy your trip!

Show up 75 to 60 minutes before the show. Once in the viewing area opens don't head strait to the front like most people do. Go in any tier so you can be along the rail. Try to get toward the center of Paradise Park.

    1. Is there only two viewing "colors" now?
Currently 2, Blue on the east and Yellow to the left. The 2 dining areas, WCT and CCR are in the center between the color area.

    2. Do they rotate?
    No.

    3. Any decent way to ensure that you get yourself into one or the other? I.e. do they give out one color of FP's in the morning and one in the afternoon?
The FP are distributed Blue then Yellow, and if there are more then one show it repeats. It takes as little as 90 minutes to distribute one color but often 2 or 3 hours.

    4. What will the performance schedule typically look like for Jan 10-16? I know it's off-season but I don't know if WoC still runs nightly/duel nightly then.
WoC has been a nightly show since it started. WoC was schedule at 8:15 on weekdays and 9 and 10:15 on the weekend including Friday.

It's been awhile since I've worked World of Color, but i'll try to answer your questions with what I can remember.

1 & 2. Yes there are only two different colored section and the reserved dining section. This will be the blue section which goes from Ariel's Grotto side of the viewing area to the about the middle. Then there's the yellow section which goes from where the blue section ends to where the Golden Zephyr is. Last I was there, the Preferred Dining section was located at the bottom of the giant circle in the middle, in the Tier 1 area. I'm not too sure if it's still there.

    3. There is no way to guarantee what section you get into. Fast passes are given out beginning with the first show of the day (if there are more than 1 show) in the blue section. Once all of those passes are handed out, it switches over to Yellow. Once these go out, the process repeats for the second show.

    4. Around that time, I would estimate that it would be around 1 show a night which would be at around 8:15 or so. Since the hours for DCA have changed, it's kind of harder to predict what park hours will be and when show times are.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions I'll try my best to answer. =)

Re: WoC Operation - What's it like now?

I'm going to be there for WOC on Monday, November 26 with my husband and three young children. I plan to get a fastpass in the morning. Last time we saw the show was in June of 2010, and we had a very difficult time waiting the 90 minutes for the show. They wouldn't let us sit down at all. Every time people would sit down, the CMs would come by and ask us to stand. Our youngest was only a year old at the time, and it was a VERY long hour and a half. Do they allow people to sit now? Could we bring a blanket and some treats to eat while we wait? If not, I'm unsure that my husband will agree to try it again.
