Re: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closing Jan 7 for 10 month refurbishment

I know the layout of the track isn't going to change, but I wish it would. Thunder has too many lulls in the action, and the "drop" after the last hill is underwhelming.

Glad I'm gonna be there literally the day before it closes.
I assume you are referring to the level of detail? The mountain shouldn't be made any bigger or else it will interfere with other sightlines in the parks.

10 months for a re-track and a total overhaul of the queue is a pretty quick turn around. If nextgen and other additions and fixes are put in place and adding to/fixing the rockwork, this 10 months is going to be record breaking in regards to time vs. work.

It needs it badly. As long as the basics of the ride aren't changed, I am more than ok w/ this.

Just like IJA, this has to be done. I suspect they wil leave most of it just as it is, there nothing wrong with it except aging mechanics and hardware.

Al's article mentioned it last time (not this current article). But it only mentioned it as the starting date (Jan 2013).
Then, on Oct 16 (yesterday), another high-ish profile rumor site published the dates.

Moral of the story... none of the dates are confirmed nor anything close to official is confirmed. I assume that we are all speaking hypothetically here based on said rumor.

They could do a lot in 10 months if they want to. Things can be done at the same time on multiple parts of the attraction.

The refurbs dates are from an official Disney operated site.

Yes, I am referring to the detail of the rocks.

I doubt they'll go the movie route for the ride; they refurbished Matterhorn and didn't make it "Mike and Sulley's Abominable Adventure".

They are loaded with prejudices, not based upon any reality, but based onÖ if something is new, I reject it immediately because itís frightening to me. What they do instead is just stay with the familiar.

I am going to miss it in 2013, since it's one of my favorite rides in the park. And I'm going to try to get on it as many times as I can before January 7th. Hopefully this will be a good thing and the Railroad will emerge looking shiny, new and operational.

Wasn't one of the proposed changes to give riders individual lap bars? I know that right now one of the things with the ride that is bothersome is that since there's one lap bar for two riders, if there's a size difference/parent and child/etc., the smaller person gets tossed around a bit.
I'm quite a bit smaller adult than my sister is and I almost flew out. I'd really appreciate individual bars.
