What's old is new again

I think it's kind of funny that the type of motel sign on the left was deemed
"tacky" and destroyed as part of Disney's operation "Katella Clean Up", and
then later, another motel sign was deliberately re-created!

For sure, the Cozy Cone sign is much more cute and appealing, and I "get"
the whole route 66 retro thing. I actually love it! But I still find the
dichotomy deliciously ironic.

That is a funny observation. So why did we destroy the signs? Because they were ugly and not pretty to look at. So why did we recreate them? So people could look at them since they don't exist anymore and are fun to look at.

I'm sure the City of Anaheim Code Enforcement Agency has not inspected/approved the signage in Carsland.

I always found it funny how many Lands there are in anaheim - Like Pizza Land - Melody Land - Campers Land ect ect.

Old is always new.....don't throw out or destroy anything because one day it will come back in style!

The one on the left was presented in real life while the one on the right is presented in a fantasy world. The one on the right is what we all chase The one on the right reminds us of older times which in our minds was better. Plus there is money that will be spent on keeping the cozy cone sign looking good while the other one would just rot and eventually be replaced

There is also that saying "you don't know what you have until it's gone." It's pretty common that "old" signage and buildings get knocked down until the public realizes that said signage/buildings have beautiful or interesting art and design, or really embody a particular historical period. It happened with all the Victorian buildings that were knocked down just because they were "old," a lot of Art Deco, etc...this is no different.

There are now Neon Museums trying to save or preserve some of the most interesting old neon signs...it's that after the fact appreciation, ie, "hey, maybe we shouldn't tear all this down."

So maybe bringing those signs to Cars Land does two things: a) fit in with the historical time period; b) show newfound appreciation for the art and style.
