Re: Pirates of the Caribbean/Blue Bayou alligator

Call him 'Gater. Ya know, like Ali-gater, except without the Ali

Or Charles. I dunno, but I always seem to call objects/animals/anything else that I don't know the name of Charles. its instinctive of me.

I also agree with the title of Lafitte due to the name Lafitte's Landing.

Monte Cristo? Nah...he's nowhere near Café Orleans

Also some say he could be Louis like from The Princess and the Frog...and possibly become an animatronic...

If I were a movin' machine
I'd head straight for the pirate's scene
And I'd move this body so hard and strong

I took this about 2 years ago as part of my Shadows of the Caribbean project. I just missed him. I'll try for him tomorrow and get a lot closer. Fun!

I've never noticed him, either. Maybe they need to give him so subtle eye-shine (glow)

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean/Blue Bayou alligator

He's been there for quite a while. This video shows him being present as far back as 1990.

    Jump back to 1967...

Jason Surrell's book doesn't mention the alligator in the Blue Bayou write-up. But it does feature a lovely bit of concept art detailing an alligator hiding amongst the shoreline foliage. Perhaps the alligator was there in 1967. After all, Jungle Cruise crocodiles back in the 60's looked very similar to not only modern Jungle Cruise crocodiles, but also the Blue Bayou alligator. Perhaps this little gator has been crafted from the same figure molds. Let's move even further back in time.

The Cambodian Shrine on the Jungle Cruise has gone through many a remodel. In the 60's, a selection of crocodiles were added near the shrine, motionlessly floating at the surface (just like the alligator). It wasn't until some time in the 70's or 80's that they completely disappeared in a rearrangement of the shrine to make it better resemble Florida's indoor shrine, resulting in the addition of more cobras, a tiger, some spiders, and shore-bound crocodiles. From then on out, only five crocodiles laid within the waters, one fighting with a gorilla, three floating in place from beneath the surface (formerly charging alligators), and two snapping at a pesky hornbill. What happened to the others?

Promotional photographs often show the Jungle Cruise river when its drained, proving that the floating crocodiles actually have legs. If this is true and all crocodiles are born from the same molds, does this mean that the removed DL crocs also had legs? Most likely, if not a solid yes. There'd be no reason for Disney to simply discard such excellent works of art, so they had to at least put them somewhere fitting. But what is available? Where would they fit?

The Blue Bayou. At least one of them had to.

My theory is that at some point during a usual refurbishment of POTC, one of the extinct crocodiles was relocated to the Blue Bayou and recast as an alligator. After all, they technically were considered alligators in the Jungle Cruise. The attraction's 1960's-born soundtrack (narrated by Thurl Ravenscroft) only lists one crocodile at the end of the attraction, that crocodile being a full animatronic drinking water from along the shoreline. The rest are labeled as alligators. Make sense? This gator has to be from the Jungle Cruise.
Theatrical Roles: Various Roles (The Laramie Project), Fred (Oklahoma!), Oberon (Shakespeare in Hollywood), Hero (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), Valere (The Miser), Moonface Martin (Anything Goes), Thenardier/Laborer/Army Officer/Ensemble (Les Miserables), Franz (The Sound of Music), Tobias Ragg (Sweeney Todd), Tinman (The Wiz), Elles Dad/Winthrop/Ensemble (Legally Blonde), William Barfee/Leaf's Dad/Jesus Christ (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Fiddler on the Roof (Rabbi), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Muff Potter/Ensemble), Shrek the Musical (Lord Farquaad)

I tried multiple times yesterday to snap a picture of the croc with my Iphone, and the results were horrible.

I agree; pretty clever there. And since RegionsBeyond brought it to everyone's attention I think his vote matters most.

    Croc Monsieur it is!

As promised, i made an attempt at Mr. Alligator with poor results. Comparing it to my picture above from 2 years ago, the lighting is a bit darker. I shot this at 85mm f1.2 1/50 25,600ISO. Its gonna take 102kiso to get anywhere close. Boo
