    for example.
---Fashion Island in Newport Beach tree lighting this week feat Mickey Mouse and other characters will be there. 100 ft tree.

---The Grove LA had their tree lighting yesterday feat the Backstreet boys, the American Idol winner, etc.

---Citadels outlet featuring Ariana Grande the girl from Victorious, and other famous ppl.

---and South Cost Plaza The Americana in Glendale etc all have trees in the 95-115 ft range trees but DL is only 60.

Oh it must be hard decorating these trees, they are real each year plus they have to add branches, lights, and ornaments.
all these places in OC/La have bigger, real trees and also feature celebrities (kinda like the Xmas day parade at DLR)

okay your comparing apples with Oranges.

Disneyland tree is the same year around. Also who cares if it's not as big as the one at South Coast plaza. Does it really matter?? I can see it just fine standing at the hub looking down Main St. and i think that is the visual Disney wants you to see.

Very true. Quality is always better than quantity. If it was any bigger, it would completely dwarf the area and take away the Rockwell-like charm that small town area has over the holidays.

At Disneyland, the hub is much smaller to bring the castle closer so it looks a little larger. Scale isn't just size, it is also distances. Also, when viewing down Main Street from the hub to Town Square, a tree any taller than what is there would look ridiculous. Many of the buildings are "3" stories tall in scaled theme, but a 100ft tree would really throw that off and actually look a funky combination of smaller and larger depending on where you viewed it from.
Exactly. Main Street is roughly 15 yards longer in Florida than California.

I agree with this. For me, its the way the tree looks, decorations and such that make it stand out. I think it's big enough but I love the attention to detail on the ornamants on the tree.

Because it would peak above the Train Station. It's at the point right now where the star of the tree can barely be seen if you stand close enough to DCA's entrance.

it's not just that but Disneyland IS NOT the Citadel, or South Coast Plaza or some other foofy mall like Fashion Island. It's a theme park with a purpose. and like it's been said the tree can't be any taller cause of the Train Station, when you look down Main St from the Hub everything is in equal view.

    I love Disneyland's tree. It's gorgeous & inviting.

Bigger doesn't always mean better. In my opinion, if it was any bigger it would throw the look of Main Street off a bit. Plus, point of the magic at Disneyland is not being able to see the magic from outside the gates. If you were to see the Christmas tree from outside, that would be pretty disappointing & ruin the anticipation (well at least it would for me).

The recession is taking a toll on the Disneyland Christmas Tree! Just kidding.

IMHO, a smaller tree would be more charming. The past trees are silly when viewed from 35 feet or closer. A twenty foot tree would be less cartoonish.

Those other trees are trying to compensate for something.

I prefer smaller trees. I always feel bad when I see a huge, possibly 100 year old tree cut down for seasonal entertainment. Those trees are few and far between, and should be left where they are.

Re: Why isn't the Main St. Xmas Tree BIGGER?

I wonder if someone can compare what the size was in the 1960's? I was a child then and it seemed bigger. But I believe that was because at the base of the tree they used huge ornaments which gradually got smaller up the tree. It made quite an impact. I am more sensitive that the tree have an antique feel since it is Main Street. It should look attractive to children, too. I feel sometime it is more a designer's tastes than what a child would pick. I think that kids love color more than the muted color tones. Disneyland used to have a bright, cool color pallet that just seemed to make you happy. Today, the tree seems less colorful somehow.
