Have to agree. A few months back my wife was standing in line at OTP to make a purchase. When she was second in line a guy walked up to the cashier and said, "do you have such and such in stock?" The cast member said, "not sure I'll check in back in a second." He finished checking out the guy in front of my wife and then said to her, "one minute let me check something for this customer" and walked in the back. Needless to say we were incredulous. We just walked out.

The easiest way to fix this is to stop having these things in the normal stores when you have two sets of customers present. They can easily put registers anywhere with wireless payment devices. I have been to pin releases where the same logistic issues occur. It causes confusion which leads to disgruntled workers and guests.

Sad to hear but you need to remember 1 thing. John Lassester is the busiest Disney Exec there is. He has a solidly strict schedule that is laid out in front of him sometimes weeks in advance. If he only had two hours for a signing that is quite literally all he has and he needs to move on to his next project. Plus the voucher does say that it's no gaurentee anything will be signed, so you were warned.

I understand about his schedule, but couldn't he have just walked out, shake a few hands, sign a few things, and apologize? Really sad to hear he just left.
    Fear of the unknown.

They are afraid of new ideas.

They are loaded with prejudices, not based upon any reality, but based onÖ if something is new, I reject it immediately because itís frightening to me. What they do instead is just stay with the familiar.
You know, to me, the most beautiful things in all the universe, are the most mysterious.

With someone like Lasseter, when one person shakes his hand and gets something signed, everyone else will want to shake his hand, get something signed, and get a picture. If he has a strict schedule for the day, he really has no choice but to just leave.

I'm sure he stepped out gracefully with a wave and thank you to the fans in the room.

I've seen enough of this crap over the years to know to never deal with any LE or special appearances at the parks.

I remember doing a few signings back in the day...Marie Osmond was a long wait but very organized. Same with Annette Funicello. Marc Davis I met in the old Disney Gallery, there wasn't many people there and only a small sign inside that said he was even there.

Disney should get more organized with there events. It's one of the reasons I try to stay away from big events anymore....just too chaotic!
I might cut the Special Events team a little slack right now. One of the senior managers within that group passed away unexpectedly about two weeks ago and it has been a tough time for all.

Re: CARS Merchandise Signing Failure... Lasseter walks out on fans.

The only celebrity I knew of who stayed until *everyone* got an autograph was Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi) at Star Trek conventions. This was back before there was a charge for autographs and even though the line was very long it was one autograph to a person and she knew how to dash them off. But everyone went away happy, which is why she did it. I'm not even a big TNG fan and I stayed to get my convention program autographed, so there was no charge whatsoever.

Conversely, when I saw Deforest Kelley (Dr. McCoy) speak he did not do an autograph session but he had written a funny poem about the Star Trek cast which was printed up in a pamphlet with lots of photos and autographed and available from many tables in the dealers' room for $10, IIRC. He was probably 70 at the time so it was a nice alternative.

I didn't know what was happening when I saw the crowd, but told my wife and daughter that the crowd was probably waiting for some important or famous Disney person. Had no idea that I peg the situation rather well.

It sounds like the event was set up just fine and then excecuted poorly.

I assume Disney had figured out a estimated sale figure for the items that could be signed. Figured out how long it would take for each item to be signed. X items sold per y minutes for a signature equals 2 hours.

They started late, allowed more time per signature and ran out of time.
