Disneyland Pirate Ship Restaurant Tunaburger Recipe

Hey everyone. A co-worker who has been going to Disneyland since she was little gave me one of her two placemats she has kept over the years from when she ate at the Pirate Ship Restaurant at Disneyland. Although she doesn't remember exactly when she got it it had to have been pre-1969 when Chicken of the Sea dropped sponsorship according to Yesterland. Thought it was kinda cool that it has the tunaburger recipe on it. I have made it several times now and it tastes great.

I say bring back the ship and skull rock. have a snack bar inside the ship and use the upper deck as a captain hook meet and greet and use skull rock as a peter pan and wendy meet and greet

I was not a tunafish fan, having had so many tuna sandwiches in my school lunchbox over the years, but I loved the Tuna Burgers at the pirate ship. I also remember a cheese slice.

Secret recipe for Chicken of the Sea® Tunaburgers served aboard the Pirate Ship at Disneyland (serves 4)

6 ½ oz can Chicken of the Sea® tuna
2 tbsp mayonnaise
¼ cup finely chopped celery
Salt and pepper to taste
Spread bottom halves of 4 sesame-seed hamburger buns with Thousand Island dressing. Add the tuna mixture above. Top with sweet pickle slices. Wrap each tunaburger tightly in foil and heat in 350° oven for 20 minutes. THE SECRET: Be sure to use the prime filet tuna – Chicken of the Sea®

Sorry for not having the photo at a higher resolution. It was a much higher quality scan but I was fighting with the uploader and this was the quality I could get the forums to take. They do taste amazing.

A small piece of trivia from what I have researched is the Tuna-burger was advertised with no cheese (as the recipe describes), and that the addition of cheese on a menu wasn't added until Chicken of the Sea dropped sponsorship in 1969 (although maybe it could be asked for, I am not sure on that). When I asked my co-worker about the placemat she said that it was from the early 60's. I did some more research and found a second placemat from the late 60's which shows the Tuna-burger with a much more Big Mac design (Big Mac first was made public in 1967), but still no cheese. The backside had the following recipe:

Mix one can of Chicken of the Sea Tune with 1 tablespoon of chopped onion, a quarter cup of chopped celery, a teaspoon of lemon juice, and two tablespoons of mayonnaise. Slice 4 hamburger buns (with seeds) into 3 horizontal sections. Spread tuna mixture onto the middle bun slice.

Now mix 2 more tablespoons of mayonnaise with 2 tablespoons of catsup; spread that onto the bottom bun slice and cover with a layer of sweet pickle slices. Put all the sections together to make a "triple decker" sandwich.

Wrap it up in Kaiser aluminum foil and bake in the oven (at 375) for 15 minutes.

I love Disney and food. I thought it would be fun someday to research the old menu's and get the old recipe's from Yesterland eateries at Disney.
