Autopia Idea - probably not feasible but still fun to imagine.

So I was at K1 Speed in Irvine the other day and I had a wonderful idea for Autopia.

Wouldn't it be AWESOME if Autopia was turned into a Go-Kart Track? How about tracks 1/2 and 3/4 (the pairs that run more or less parallel) get turned into two LARGE tracks with no rails and some barriers (you know, standard kart tracks) and we just take electric karts around for a few laps?

Now before you point this out, OF COURSE this won't work. Even in a few minutes of casual thought, I can think of about 1,001 reasons why this is not at all practical for Disneyland, at least not without serious modifications, but it's fun to imagine... zipping through there at 20-25 MPH instead of 6 on a slick track... a nice heat of laps and then out! Put it one good long back straight and it's perfect! The electric karts at K1 can touch 40 on the long straights.

It would probably be easier for Disney to turn one of the parking lots into a Go-Kart track with an identical layout and scenery to the real thing behind the berm.

I'm babbling... just a fun/silly idea that I wanted to share.

It's fun. But the CM's needed to flag and turn the spin outs and those stuck in tires would be too much for Disneyland.

Oh are you kidding? People bumping into the barriers would be the LEAST of their problems. In order for something like that to realistically work the Karts would have to slow down to Boomers-speeds. All in all it's a fun idea but it'd be a logistical nightmare when you consider how they'd have to arrange the ride to move a lot of people through it. Then consider all the ways that people disobeying ride instructions and safety could injure themselves and you'd have, um, somewhat of a liability.

I think Autopia at the very least needs a huge tech upgrade. The Subs I like and are OK for now even if they don't quite fit the theme of the land that well.

That might be a good idea for something where Innoventions stands... use the foot print of the building and just make it a little taller with balconies only on the side facing into the park, and have the "core of the building (lobby and such) towards the back end.

Agreed. Question is - what could they do?

The Karts could be themed to an outdoor real life version of Mr. Toad.

You could run over fences, through buildings, scatter a flock of AA sheep etc, and generally wreak havoc through a richly themed countryside setting!

I had thought that too, until I rode them again this past week. My son and wife were in the car ahead of me. His face was beaming...he's almost 3. He was SOOOO excited to be driving. As for me, I barely fit in the car, but I was pleasantly surprised I hit the barrier way less now that I'm 44. lol Seriously, this is still a great bit of fun.

I made a point of riding it when all the doom and gloom discussion started since I wouldn't want it to disappear without one last spin and -- surprise, surprise -- it was fun and I went back another couple of times. Where else can I drive on the British side?

Man I like the way you think. That would be a blast that track would be insane going around at 50 mph. They could have a celebrity to kart race every year fun idea.
