    Small World song

Is "it's a small world" one of the most recognizable songs ever? For good or bad. Even people who have never been to a Disney park at least know the chorus, which is usually followed by bleeding ears and screaming. (I personally really like the song. I don't see what the big deal is.) what do you think? What song surpasses the recognition of Small World?

I think it is one of those songs that is both simple and genious at the same time, and in my opinion is on the same caliber as Beethoven's Ode to Joy (the main theme from the final movement of his 9th Symphony) which is similarly structured and perhaps is one of the greatest if not the greatest song ever written.

It's funny, at the end of a trip to Disneyland, I end up humming "How Do You Do." But, that's because I spend so much time the night before I leave in Critter Country!

I know the song has a special place in my heart! I had the record as a kid, and I would spend hours exploring every intricate inch of the drawings, and soaked in every note. Once I moved to California and got my first actual glimpse of the IASW castle, I was in awe. To this day, no matter how many times I visit, I get teary-eyed when I hear the song. It's my favorite. Ive even used the song as the basis for a diversity lesson when I taught younger grades. Disney has a thousand positive lyrics, but these have got to be the most positive.

Of course, now dynamite goat has me thinking of, "How Do You Do."

Six days till my next visit!!

Fine. I'll publicly admit it. I like this song. It makes me feel good, and reminds me of a place where there is still hope in the world.

A bit of trivia. Apparently the folks who wrote this, the Sherman Brothers were going to GIVE the rights of this song away, but Walt told them not to, saying that this would be BIG. I guess it's good for them if they listened.

Welcome to the club! I always get crap for liking this song but I stand strong. There's a clip out there of one of the Sherman brothers (Richard, I think) playing the song on a piano the way it was originally written, slow and somber. Then as he goes on, he picks the tempo up into the song we know and love today. It's good stuff.

Not quite true. The song was written for the UNICEF attraction at the World's Far, and at UNICEF's request, the song was not copyrighted. Its public domain status is one of the reasons it became so widely performed and well known.

Count me among the lovers of the song. Chokes me up.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the tip.

    Re: Small World song

The song was written as a 'prayer for world peace' with a much slower tempo. It was then sped up and the melody was slightly changed to be used in the attraction... after realizing the original idea of every country singing their national anthem at once would be too confusing.

And I admit, I like the song as well

I've never disliked the song, although if there is sufficient repetition, any song can become annoying.
