People would freak out when they realize Disney spends that kind of money just to overhaul restaurants.. let alone massive E-ticket attractions with complex ride systems, acres of show, etc.

4M is nothing in Disney dollars.. considering they are doing track work, probably replacing all the track wood, redoing the station (which means dealing with ride control), and having to deal with new compliance issues.
True; $4 million to a company the size of Disney would be even less that buying a big gulp at the local 7-11 would be to most of us.

It's entirely possible that a $4 million project didn't even make it to Bob Igers desk. It could have been approved a layer or two down.

Is anyone else wondering why they're putting all their eggs in one basket? That TV show may very well flop, and if you look at the fates of other supernatural TV shows that have aired recently (Alcatraz, 666 Park Avenue, etc.), this new TV show may be canned.

I'm so tired of these threads being turned into conversations on how much people are being paid. Bob Iger probably knows about the project, but there's other people below him that make most of the decisions.

I'm thinking that the movie tie-in will be slight. Something that would fit even though the TV series fails. I think the whole goal is to change the storyline of the mountain first.

Since the BTMRR accident had nothing to do with construction or building codes.. I think we're safe with micromind's comment.

of course Disney says 4 million overhaul, but this contract is for 9. Hmmm.
But they did work on Soarin' and Space as well as other big attractions for Disney and others.

    It's possible they're building a Space-Mountain-style boarding area for the less-abled.

Is that even feasible? That would require moving an entire train over to the side for loading. That would require a ton of space and new mechanics.

Magic Kingdom's was closed from January to June 2012 for it's rehab. Why is DLR's rehab taking so much longer? I can't remember if MK's got a full track replacement or just partial. Maybe that's part of the reason. And there may be other parts of DLR's (like the mining town buildings) getting rehabbed that MK's didn't, but seems they could rebuild those at the same time as the other work was being done, so that shouldn't count for a longer rehab time. Same with the queue.

Only if there is enough of a labor force to do both things at the same time.

They replaced all the wood beams in the track at MK.. and serviced it all.. but did not replace the steel track itself. They also started taking out all the wood beams before the rehab even started.

You can't really be critical of the timeline without knowing the scope of work. And you don't really want MK's version of the rehab.. it was really just upkeep.. and even after that.. not all effects were working long.

^ I wasn't critical of the time. I just asked why.

I could have sworn they did some steel track work too. Maybe not.

Repairs/maintenance - but not bulk replacement. However many show structures, etc were redone. Given the duration of DLR's.. I would expect lots of wood structures being rebuilt.. queue changes.. the platform changes announced.. etc.
