They are, however the imagineers got nostalgic and attempted to use live ones. Apparently they were never trained to swim in their mermaid suits. :/

Something tells me if this happened it would have been bigger news and the ride wouldn't have reopened the same day.

If this were true, it would be an issue with too much weight on the boat and would have happened at the beginning of the ride, not towards the end. So i'm calling it bogus.

My cousin was texting me from inside where she was stuck. They were stuck for 2 hours then evacuated... is that longer than usual?

in small world there is a part of the flume that is a bit deeper
that is for the tires that are placed horizontal they are attached to the hull and dont let the boat bump on the sides

While I have my doubts about this story, it is possible for the boats to "sink" when taking on water. They don't actually sink completely below the water line and hit the bottom; it's more like filling up with water to where the top few inches of the boat is just at the surface. I've seen this more than once with RoA canoes and college football teams rocking the canoe back and forth.

I knew the girl who was the operator of the boat. She was devastated.
That was my first thought. Isn't the off-line track for PotC just before the jail scene but right after the sleeping pirate in the pig pen and drunken hairy leg pirate above your head? Maybe a similar situation happened, who knows.

FWIW, the water was about 2 inches high at our feet within the boat early last month. I've never had water seeping into my sneakers like it did then. I can see how the integrity of boat could be damaged enough to make it slowly sink by rides end.

From inside the attraction? That is fantastic that she got service from inside there. Kudos to her provider.

just for the record... when I say sink... I don't mean completely.... as many of you have said , that's impossible... but to take out enough water to where it wont move and guest and 1/3 of the way in water is possible.
