Michael Colglazier new President of Disneyland. Kalogridis moves to WDW

From the Inside the Magic Facebook page...

"George Kalogridis is the new president of Walt Disney World! Taking over for him as president of Disneyland is Michael Colglazier, formerly VP of Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Meg Crofton will remain President of Operations, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts United States and Paris"

What has happened at AK in the past 7 years? Consider me worried.

Re: Michael Colglazier new President of Disneyland. Kalogridis moves to WDW

I'm really happy for WDW as they definitely needed some new management, but I am also very worried that DL is getting the raw end of this deal.

    From the press release:

"For the last several years, Colglazier has served as head of Disney’s Animal Kingdom where he has been instrumental in the planning and development of an Avatar-themed land. He brings more than two decades of wide-ranging experience to his new role at the Disneyland Resort, including leadership positions in Operations, Global Development, Operations Strategy and Technology and Strategic Planning."

There are many meaningless buzz words in that statement and mentioning Avatar land does not give me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

Oh, this is worrysome. Considering how Animal Kingdom has kinda run itself into the ground over the past few years, I would say that we definitely got the short end of the deal on this one.

Oh my....I am worried, I know WDW needed someone like George there (badly), but Disneyland, the original and most special theme park, deserves to have someone great. Avatarland has absolutely no one out here impressed, and coming from FL has got to cause worry in everyone who cares about park upkeep and investing long and short term. I'll wait to hear more about him (with my fingers crossed).

WDW definitely needed George K. given his track record with Disneyland in terms of overall upkeep, so good for them.

As for out here...meh seems to cover it. We'll see.

If I went back 3+ years ago and found the initial response about George taking over there was probably the same concern. Sometimes DL brings the best out in people. Until I see otherwise I will givce Michael the benefit of the doubt.

At least the annoncement didn't talk about him trying to put stores in; he was at least involved with attractions being added.

I am happy for WDW. Let's see if George starts kicking some butts there.

I am sure that John L. will have a conversation with Colglazier about how things need to run.

Would promoting someone from within TDA's organization been so out of the question for once? I don't know anything about Colglazier, only what's gone on at Animal Kingdom. Everest, Nemo, great decisions... But over 7 years? Need a l'il more than that. Plenty more issues with the park and it's still a half-day experience. And for what it's worth I'm sure pinning the Avatarland issue on him is completely unfair.. doubt he had anything to do with inking the deal it was just dumped onto Animal Kingdom. However with WDW in general it seems like unless something gets dumped on them(New Fantasyland, Star tours II), things don't happen.

I wouldn't have minded Mary Niven as president of Disneyland. I suppose she's either staying in place or moving up the corporate ladder.

I think George K. did a really good, commendable job. He wasn't perfect, but a definite improvement over his predecessor. I'm sure WDW could use him and that he will do well there.

I would be so nervous coming from Animal Kingdom to Disneyland.

It's apparent that George K. can whip things into shape and keep them running pretty smoothly. I am sure that is the reason for this switch. WDW could use someone like George. Colglazier will have a lot of breathing down his neck here leaving little to no room for error.
