    Disneyland Hotel 1956: What's In A Photo

Here is a picture from August, 1956 of Disneyland Hotel's Grand Opening (see the ribbon on Art's lapel) which I mistakenly put in my second book as coming from June of 1957. It has actress Jeanne Crain and Art Linkletter in it. The first thing I think of when I see a picture like this is, someone filmed this and the next thing is, where is the film? I do have footage of this event but not of this particular setting. There is footage with Jeanne Crain but not Art Linkletter. Looks like 16mm film stock and a fairly big roll.

Next thing I would ask is, why is she wearing a mask?

    Great photos as always Don!!

Not to nitpick, but I think the camera in the photo has a 35mm magazine, 900' or so. Maybe it was a shot set up for Disney & Wrather publicity stills, and the actual footage was shot in 16mm...? The setup and the "crew" in the photo (especially the boom mike man) do have a bit of a staged-for-publicity look.

Another possibility was that it was shot in 35, and the distribution (release) prints for TV telecine chains were in 16.

    Just guessin'....

You are the guy checking out her legs in the picture or you would check out her legs if you were that guy

    And that's the truth!

There's an interesting Jeanne Crain Web Site, run by her grandson, Bret Crain.

She was very good friends with Bonita Granville-Wrather. I have many pictures of her at the Hotel's Grand Opening.

Maybe its a trick of the lighting, but her top looks almost see-through. That was pretty risqué for the time.
