I think it's a great way to slow things down, and really look at different parts of the park. My kids like them too!
I love them! It's a true immersive experience!
I hate them! Too much work!
I've never been on them and/or I am opinionless

Stockholder and Walt Disney Autograph holder!!
I got my Husband to do this ride last year, and we both loved it. Great experience with great cast members!

Love the canoes, whenever we go on it my sister complains but the rest of us love going on them.
I love them. Rode once when we had several good sized guys paddling together... First time I ever saw a surprised smile on the CMs face.
I'm basically lazy, so I'll just hold my paddle about an inch over the water, and bob it slightly up and down so it will only LOOK like I'm paddling.
Of course, this never works and the cast members ALWAYS say something to me.![]()
I don't like them, and it has nothing to do with the work factor, but that paddling a canoe isn't up to my expectation of the Disneyland experience. I've canoed maybe a half dozen times in my life, and once on the Crockett Canoes - and the latter wasn't anything special or spectacular when compared to the former.
But that doesn't mean I want them gone... Just because I don't appreciate them doesn't mean they don't serve a good purpose. They don't hurt anything by being there, and do add to that "kinetic" display on the river throughout the day, but don't look for me paddling.
I'm making it up, but it's the truth.
It is my fav ride in the park. It gave me THE MOST exciting ride I've taken. We crashed into the island, almost hit another canoe backing off said island, then came a bit under 10 feet from hitting the Mark Twain's paddle wheel while it was in reverse as the CMs were making sure we were all ok as we were told paddle as fast as we could so we wouldn't hit the other canoe. It was awesome fun. Poor CMs, never saw them there again (not that I look that often).
BTW, no one asked if there were tracks following our adventure.
We love the canoes. It is one of the few attractions where you actually get to do something! It is a great experience and I hope they keep it always. It is also one of my 7 yr. old's favorite rides at Disneyland, so that says a lot (Her others being Pirates and BTMRR).
My only complaint is that people are usually out of sync and whacking each other.
I always took the time to go on the canoes when I was a kid. On our family trip last year, we were surprised to learn that even our 1 year old son was able to go on the ride. So we did. We all had a great time!
"I do not like to repeat successes. I like to go on to other things." - Walt Disney
I tried it for the first time last year and really enjoyed it - the only part I didnt like was a rude kid kept splashing people on purpose including my daughters best friend and never even said sorry.
My kids enjoy the ride, especially watching the CMs. My nieces and nephews love paddling!
If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.
I've always loved the canoes. My family used to have our own canoe that we would use on the rivers around us, so paddling never bothered me.
What I also like - besides the workout - is the different perspective you have of the sights along the River. I've gotten some interesting photos!
Hidden Mickey - Historical fiction about Walt that mixes action and mystery with time travel and fantasy! Tweens to adults will enjoy these novels. And now, gamebooks to play in Disneyland and WDW Magic Kingdom!
